Let’s Talk About… Super Mario (Part of our #MarioWeek Antics)

If you’re reading this, it means you’re visiting the Miketendo64 website and it is Let’s Talk About time!

But what is Let’s Talk About? Well it’s our feature series that continues to evolve and as part of its evolution, we’ve taken it public, so that instead of just me or Mike Scorpio and I doing all the work, discussing all things Nintendo related, now you too can join in and have your say. So in light of that and eager to strike up yet another instalment, because it is #MarioWeek at Miketendo64, we asked a whole bunch of questions on Twitter, and today we’re sharing the responses each question got:

Best Mario Character:

@austinclan9999: “Lakitu, without a doubt.”

@WizardDojo: “Bowser. But also Geno, Fawful, Rosalina, DK, and the Mario Bros. themselves, of course.”

@Liutasil81: “Wario.”

@timmi1812: “Luigi.”

@Ninrou8: “Yoshiiiiiiiiii!”

@darthcsad: “The Koopa Kids.”

 Image result for the koopa kids

Best Mario Moment?:

@Nonkhi: “Playing Mario 64 as a child.”

@darthcsad: “Super Mario World: Accidentally discovering the pass through Bowser’s domain in the Donut Plains. My friend and I thought we broke the game!”

Best Mario Spin-off?:

@Paul_Pope: “Mario Kart for sure!”

@Ninrou8: “Mario Kart 8 <3!”

@darthcsad: “Mario Kart 64.”

Most Deserving Mario Game to get a Sequel?:

@timmi1812: “Isle Delfino and I hope it will happen in SMO.”

@darthcsad: “Dinosaur Land.”

 Image result for dinosaur land mario

A Mario Location you would Love to Make a Return to?:

@austinclan9999: “Super Mario 3D World. I reckon they could really expand on the multiplayer in a sequel…”

@Paul_Pope: “Sunshine needs a sequel.”

@Ninrou8: “Mario Galaxy 3 or Sunshine 2!”

@darthcsad: “SMB 2.”

What is your Most Favourite Mario related amiibo?:

@darthcsad: “The 8-bit Classic Mario.”

Who is a Mario Boss you wish to see the Return of?:

@Marcus_Sellars: “I want a Chain Chomp boss!!”

@JJWoodford: “How about something new like Bowser Jr. in a wee best man’s suit with his ship all done up too.”

  Related image

I say Mario, you Say?:

@timmi1812: “Isle Delfino and I hope it will happen in SMO.”

@darthcsad: “Do do do do do doot, doot!

Who is a Mario Character you would Like to See More of?:

@wraithgames: “Geno, Wart, Daisy, and Midbus.”

@austinclan9999: “BUZZY BEETLE!!! Let’s get him into 3D!!!”

@darthcsad: “Mouser.”

Since Mario has a mobile game, who thinks Luigi or Wario should be the next Mario characters to get one? Warioware on Mobile devices would be Fun!:

@austinclan9999: “Actually Warioware on mobile would work far better than it ever has on console IMHO.”

@miketendo64 (in response to @austinclan9999): “Touch controls, voice controls, tilt controls. It has plenty of promise. They could even make it a 1-2-Switch tie-in by having those sort of games but with Warioware. Aka 1-2-Warioware.”

@austinclan9999 (in response to @miketendo64): “The thing is that Nintendo wish to use mobile to attract people to their systems, and so I doubt they’d ever make it a complete experience.”

@timmi1812: “I think a simple Luigi’s Mansion mobile game would be nice, where you can defend ghosts on the go.”

@miketendo64 (in response to @timmi1812): “And Halloween would have been as good a time as any to release it, only it doesn’t seem it will be this year.”

@timmi1812 (in response to @miketendo64): “Yes, maybe next year. That would be really nice.”

@darthcsad: “WarioWare mobile would be sweet, A Luigi’s Mansion, top-down view type game would be neat.”

Once you get Hold of Super Mario Odyssey, what’s your plan of attack? Lock-in/long gaming session or get everyone round, get out the Big TV and play in Style? (No inviting Karen):

@austinclan9999: “(Karen will be VERY upset BTW…)”

@miketendo64 (in response to @austinclan9999): “I don’t doubt that she will be, but she didn’t invite us to her party and it’s not like anyone ever saw her again.”

@austinclan9999 (in response to @miketendo64): “Well first I’ll unwrap the cellophane… Seriously, I will just hang around the first world doing crazy stuff for the first day!”

@miketendo64 (in response to @austinclan9999): “Nah, I think I prefer the cellophane answer. Our EiC unwrapped Nights of Azure 2 with a sword. Video is taking forever to upload though, so you can see, but when it’s online.”

@Paul_Pope: “Big TV, recliner chair, kids in bed, all-night session, suffer the noise of small children the rest of the weekend!”

@miketendo64 (in response to @Paul_Pope): “You won’t let them delight in it also? That’s bad parenting, but very smart gaming!”

@Paul_Pope (in response to @miketendo64): “One just dribbles as he’s 4 months old & the other broke her arm last week so I could be a great parent & offer knowing neither can play.”

@darthcsad: “Marathons both solo and then letting my 5yr old son dig into it.”

Should the Switch get another big Mario title within the next 3 years, any preference as to what you would want it to be? A Super Mario Maker Port? A New Super Mario Bros? Paper Mario Switch, or just something else that is 2D?:

@Jome20: “Love a Paper Mario similar to the Thousand Year Door or Super Paper Mario (Wii). Super Mario Maker DX port makes a ton of sense too.”

@PatbenSte (in response to @Jome20): “How would you build levels Mario Maker? Touchscreen only? Nintendo never would do that… With buttons? Uaaah…”

@Jome20 (in response to @PatbenSte): “Switch has a touch screen functionality so the creation tool menu would prob just overlap the screen and go away when not being used.”

@austinclan9999: “Super Mario RPG 2. I will never rest until it comes to fruition!”

@WizardDojo: “Bowser. But also Geno, Fawful, Rosalina, DK, and the Mario Bros. themselves, of course.”

@PatbenSte “All of them!!!!!”

@Paul_Pope: “A Super Mario All-Stars style HD collection of classics, they must be able to squeeze so many past hits into a Switch cartridge!”

@timmi1812: “The Switch definitely needs a New Super Mario Bros. A new Paper Mario would be nice, too!”

@darthcsad: “Yes, 1.5-2 years hopefully. How about an HD Mario 64 update? To hold us off until an Odyssey sequel!”

Now I could do the typical thing I do when we reach this stage in the newer version of Let’s Talk About, but not today. Our followers have said enough, and because #MarioWeek is about us and not I (even though there is a I in Mario,) there is no need for me to have my say, so instead, we’re going to wrap this up so you can go back to playing, or watching others play Super Mario Odyssey!

This has been another of our revised instalments of Let’s Talk About. Thank you reading. Thank you for supporting the series and if you wish to join in with the conversation, you can do so below by leaving a comment.

Until the next instalment, keep on gaming!

Super Mario Odyssey- Certain Amiibo Will Unlock Costumes

With the release of Super Mario Odyssey just around the corner and three new Mario amiibo coming along with it, they won’t be the only amiibo to unlock items in-game. The Wedding versions of Mario, Peach & Bowser can grant temporary power-ups like invincibility, a Life-Up heart or show the location of coins in the region.

The Super Mario Series amiibo and the Super Mario themed Smash Bros. Series amiibo will unlock costumes for Mario to wear in game. They can however, be unlocked normally in the game but by using amiibo, you can obtain them instantly. Here are the compatible amiibo you can use to unlock costumes

Mario (Super Smash Bros. series)
Peach (Super Smash Bros. series)
Luigi (Super Smash Bros. series)
Diddy Kong (Super Smash Bros. series)
Bowser (Super Smash Bros. series)
Dr. Mario (Super Smash Bros. series)
Wario (Super Smash Bros. series)
Mario (Super Mario series)
Luigi (Super Mario series)
Peach (Super Mario series)
Bowser (Super Mario series)
Gold Mario (Super Mario series)
Wario (Super Mario series)
Diddy Kong (Super Mario series)
Waluigi (Super Mario series)
Mario Classic Colors (Super Mario 30th Anniversary)
Mario Modern Colors (Super Mario 30th Anniversary)

All other amiibo will also work, but they will only generate in-game help. For some reason, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Boo, Koopa Trooper and Goomba, don’t seem to unlock outfits. Maybe because these characters don’t wear any clothes and I don’t think anyone wants to see Mario run around in only a tie, though Mario in a Yoshi Costume would be cool but too be honest I don’t think the outfits will be character themed, or ar they? Only time will tell.

[Video] Splatoon 2 Being Played By Charles Martinet!

When not being the voice of Super Mario, Charles Martinet does like to dabble in other games as well, like playing Splatoon 2 at E3 2017 for example. BlockHead Gaming captured video footage of the Legendary voice of Super Mario as he was playing  Turf War in Splatoon 2. You can watch the video below.

[Video] Super Mario Odyssey Supports Co-op Mode

If you was wondering whether Super Mario Odyssey would be supporting multiplayer, you may be a little disappointed but it will feature co-op gaming much like it did in Super Mario Galaxy. By that I mean that 2 players can play at the same time using each Joy-con, One to control Mario and the other to control Cappy. By controlling Cappy, the second play can defeat enemies and collect coins including the hard to reach ones and the first player gets to enjoy playing as Mario. you can see for yourself via the video below.

[Video] Why Nintendo Should Make Amiibo Cards For Switch

With Nintendo really pushing the Nintendo Switch with crystal clear advertising as to what it is, a home console on the go, and still driving the amiibo brand by announcing even more amiibo figures releasing throughout the year, it is fair to say that Nintendo are still on board with the Toys-to-life program. I love amiibo as it allows me to collect my favourite character and figure form an display them in all their beauty and the fact they can unlock extra content in games is a bonus, I fear that amiibo figures may not key in too well with the Nintendo Switch’s Streamlined “Gaming on the Go.”

Not everyone who owns a Switch, owns amiibo and those that do are not necessarily going to whip them out in public to scan on top of their console to earn some extra goodies or unlock a costume. Also with some amiibo figures being hard to find due to their limited availability, sure there must be an easier way to collect our favourite characters and still unlock the extra goodies in our favourite games. Well there is and it comes in the form of amiibo cards and allow me to explain how they can work better for both the consumer and Nintendo with our video below.

[Video] Super Mario Odyssey- Developer Diary Looks Into Customization & Confirms Functionality With All Current Amiibo

Nintendo have uploaded a video title “Super Mario Odyssey- Developer Diary Which gives a look into the customization of costumes in game and controller options. It also stated that all current amiibo will work with Super Mario Odyssey. How they will function with the game has not been confirmed but wouldn’t it be nice if they game Mario themed costumes. Anyway, you can check out the Dev Diary video below.

Super Mario Odyssey Controls, Diverse Kingdoms, Gameplay Styles & More

Super Mario Odyssey is most definitely one of the hottest things at the Nintendo booth at E3 and the web right now (for Nintendo fans anyway). So much so that we just can’t get enough of all the incredible details that are flowing out into the internet. Nintendo Everything have courteously compiled a list together of what you can expect from Super Mario Odyssey ranging from Gameplay controls to the diversity of the Kingdoms and so much more. Check it out below.

– Hat serves as a weapon, a platform, a way to collect items and a tool to capture enemies
– Hat throws mapped to Joy-Con motion controls
– Can also use the X and Y buttons to fling it
– Flicking your wrists once throws the hat out
– Flicking them up or down will send your hat in those directions
– Flicking both wrists also creates a spin attack, spinning the hat around Mario
– Switch Pro Controller supported, which has gyro support
– Capture Bullet Bills to fly across areas inaccessible to Mario before
– Capture lightbulb-like objects to zoom to inaccessible areas of New Donk City
– Worlds called Kingdoms
– Capturable giant binoculars that give you a better vantage point of the whole area
– Capturing a Chain Chomp will let you break down huge obstacles
– Extremely stretchy-legged monster used to hop to new platforms
– Wild-looking capture opportunities were part of the huge prototyping process that took place for Super Mario Odyssey
– It was this process that lead to the game’s different Kingdoms, with different game mechanics
– Stages have high density of gameplay elements
– Mario must rescue Princess Peach from Bowser yet again
– He’s taken her far outside of the Mushroom Kingdom for this jaunt
– Not saying how many Kingdoms in the game, but they’ll be diverse
– See things never before in Mario titles
– Many of these you’ve seen in the real world
– Power Moons are the things you collect
– These power Mario’s airship as he flies from Kingdom to Kingdom
– Instead of Mario being kicked out to a main world after he finds each, he’ll keep moving ahead to new ones
– Far more Power Moons than main-game collectables in games like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine
– There aren’t also any “mandatory” story moons to collect as well
– This was difficult to develop for
– Can continue the story or just explore and go at your own pace
– Choosing either of those play styles is something Nintendo hadn’t really had to do before in a 3D Mario

Nintendo Confirms Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga DX + Bowser’s Minions for 3DS

Remember the rumours of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga DX + Bowser’s Minions coming to Nintendo 3DS? Well the game does exist!

Revealed during Nintendo’s E3 Nintendo Treehouse coverage, the 3DS game has been confirmed for Nintendo 3DS and is said to be a remake of the original GBA title, plus features enhance graphics and an all new Minion Quest mode.

https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/874713484839182336

With a bit of luck and the way more 3DS games are being announced, we can expect to hear about a new Animal Crossing or even a new handheld Zelda game. (A video games journalist can dream right?)
