[Video] Shantae’s BFF’S Show off What they can Do in an Official Friends to the End DLC Trailer

Last month the talented folks over at WayForward revealed almost every detail there is to know about Shantae: Half-Genie Hero’s upcoming Friends to the End DLC. What they didn’t share though, was a trailer, until now:

No release dates were revealed, but going by what WayForward said before, it should be out during the Holiday period as it has already been submitted for approval and that the DLC is free to backers, with non-backers having to purchase it, should they wish to add it to their copy of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. As for who voices who, Cherami Leigh is the voice of Rottytops (voices Gaige in the DLC for Borderlands 2.) Nathan Sharp who voiced Marcel in Attack on Titan voices Bolo and Karen Strassman (voice behind Fire Emblem’s Anna) for the voice of Sky.

Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero Development News Update, Pirate Queen’s Quest DLC Complete And More!

WayForward, the developers behind Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero have posted on their Kickstarter an update on their development of DLC for the game including the good news that the Pirate Queen’s Quest DLC is now complete and has been submitted to Nintendo.

The post also includes news about the colour swap palette for Risky Boots & Shantae along with the Friends DLC that will allow Sky, Bolo and Rottytops to be playable characters. Here is the full post update by WayForward:

Pirate Queen’s Quest!

The Risky Boots DLC, “Pirate Queen’s Quest” is now complete, and has been submitted to Steam, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo! Yay! Some of you may have noticed that the game has already received an update over the past few days. That’s because we’ve added new achievements and trophies, as well as other game code to support the inbound DLC!

The game will be available publicly as premium DLC, but will be free to Backers. We’re working hard to ensure that Backers can play this content early, before it’s released to the general public. We’ll update you once we’ve passed submission and have codes in hand! Please remember that each platform handles codes differently, so we’ll do the best we can to get them out on or around the same time. We hope you’ll look forward to this HUGE ADDITION to the game!

As a reminder, you will receive the DLC code that matches the platform (or platforms) you already selected for the main game. We can’t mix or match the DLC, since we have to buy these download codes in advance, so thank you for your understanding.

Tinkerbat Dance DLC is here!

We’re happy to report that we now have Tinkerbat Dance Download Codes for every platform. Without further ado, we’ll start distributing those to qualifying Backers this week! This DLC will allow Shantae to transform into a Tinkerbat to slice foes, and double-jump using the Tinker-Copter!

Keep your eyes on that inbox!

NOTE: We’d like to remind everyone that DLC was created exclusively for Backers at the “$55 and above” Tier. Since then, a lot of you have requested that this be released publicly for those who missed it. At this time, our desire is to keep this content exclusive to those who backed it. However, we’re considering releasing it at some later date, after a lengthy exclusivity period.

We’d really like to hear what you, our Backers, think about this. Please share your opinions in the comments section of our Kickstarter Page.

Color Swaps + Drifter Blade DLC Update!

Some more good news: The “Blue Shantae” and “Classic Risky” color swaps, as well as the “Drifter Blade” are complete! We’ll have more info on that next time. We’ve got a lot of content for you, coming in HOT!

Friends Mode DLC Update!

With Pirate Queen’s Quest behind us, we’re hard at work on the Friends Mode DLC. We’re making excellent progress on this new mode, which (like Pirate Queen’s Quest) adds an all new storyline, new levels, and a special boss encounter. At present, we’re about halfway done with this mode. Sky, Bolo, and Rottytops are all playable and lookin’ good! We’ll do a full update on this exciting new content soon!

See you then!

[Review] Runbow Pocket Deluxe Edition (New Nintendo 3DS)

rubows.jpg

Developer: 13 AM Games

Publisher: 13 AM Games

Platform: New Nintendo 3DS

Category: Platforming, Multiplayer and Action

Release Date: 20th of June, 2017 (EU & NA)

*          *          *          *          *

Runbow originally released on the Nintendo Wii U way back in 2015. The game’s reception was extremely positive, which encouraged developer 13 AM Games to port it to the New Nintendo 3DS. This upgraded port includes guest playable characters such as Shantae, Shovel Knight, and even CommanderVideo! There is also DLC which includes a brand new adventure map called Satura’s Space Adventure that introduces many new levels which includes a ton of new mechanics to learn and master.

download.jpegThe meat of potatoes of Runbow consists of over a hundred platforming levels wherein background colours shift on a cycle. Those colours correspond to the colours of platforms that you must progress through each stage, however, when that colour becomes the background colour, those platforms become unusable for the time being. This provides extremely interesting levels where you must never stop thinking if you want to keep up. Levels are extremely well-designed and each one has a unique concept that makes each level feel different from the next. The game is best enjoyed with friends, as it supports  local and online multiplayer.  Playing with friends will fill each session with plenty of laughter and joy. The main goal of each level is to get to the trophy at the end of the stage before all of your friends. Alternatively, you can play some of the other, non-racing modes such as King of the Hill, and Arena. Run_Footage.mp4.Still005.0.png

The game is very fluid and looks quite good on the New Nintendo 3DS’s screen, however it still pales in comparison to the Wii U version. It should be noted that the game does crash every now and again, but this is likely to be patched relatively soon.

*          *          *          *          *

Conclusion:

Runbow Pocket Deluxe is an extremely fun game to play with others that provides hours of replayable fun. However, if you are planning on playing this by yourself, you may find yourself feeling finished with the game rather early into its potential lifespan. Runbow is well worth the cost of entry with others, but I’d suggest waiting for a sale if you prefer to go solo.

THE VERDICT: 8.5/10

WayForward Confirm Physical Release of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero for Nintendo Switch

For a long time gamers and fans of the Shantae series alike have been harbouring thoughts that a Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Switch release was going and guess what? It is!

 Not only has WayForward on Twitter confirmed the recent Shantae game for the new Nintendo console, but it will release this Summer and XSEED Games are on board to handle the physical release. But before we get to excited about that, it doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a physical release for North America and Europe, as there wasn’t for the Wii U version of the game, but here’s hoping we’ll get confirmation and soon. [April Fool’s] WayForward “Announces” Shantae: Demakeified!

April Fool’s continues and finding itself the focus of this article, is a “remaster” we’ve always wanted, a reimagining of the first Shantae game!

Only I won’t have to use my own words to tell you all about it, as WayForward have gone all out with the announcement that they’ve even sent out a press release for the mock title and you can see it all right here:

*          *          *          *          *

Play the original SHANTAE in a whole new way:

Shantae: Demakeified!

Valencia, Calif. – 04/01/2017 — We are thrilled today to announce the re-imagining of a WayForward classic: Shantae: Demakeified!

First released on the Game Boy Color in 2002, the original Shantae game sold over 8,000 copies and spawned a generation of diehard fans, as well as several sequel products: Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and the just-released Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (all available now on PC Steam and consoles).

But fans have been asking – nay, BEGGING – WayForward to recreate Shantae’s first adventure for modern gaming systems. Well today, we answer that beg! WayForward has a rich history of recreating classic games with updated visuals, audio, and storytelling. But let’s face it, remakes and remasters are so 2016. What the kids love these days is DE-MAKES!

Shantae: Demakeified! is a painstaking recreation of the 2002 Game Boy Color game, with all-new reduced visuals, removed animation frames, and compressed audio! It includes most of the game’s original levels, plus no new content (because we couldn’t fit much on the cart). Gameplay has been redesigned to work with a single-button input, adding a whole new layer of challenge to jumping, attacking, or just walking around.

And for people who are “so over” de-makes, there’s a special unlockable mode: Shantae De-Demakeified! Stare with befuddlement at randomly-colored squares that slide around onscreen and might possibly represent characters. Struggle to figure out basic mobility, just like Grand-Dad did back in 1982. More retro equals more fun!

Shantae: Demakeified! is available Fall 2017 on all consoles with an RF output. For more information on this title and all WayForward games, head to http://www.WayForward.com.

*          *          *          *          *

The whole “available Fall 2017” is a nice touch, nothing screams April Fool’s louder than that and with the day still not over, we can expect another hijinks or two! Have you got a favourite joke news article that broke today? Let us know!
