The Miketendo Strip: Issue #12: Life After Metroid Pt.3

If you’ve come here seeking a laugh, you’ve come to the right place. I am avlongman9 and I am the illustrator of The Miketendo Strip! and today we have a new instalment for you to enjoy!

It is no secret that I love the Mass Effect games, so much so I wanted to do a Mass Effect strip, but our writer flat-out told me no, but he wasn’t finished. “Although there is no reason why we couldn’t find a way to incorporate Fem Sheep into our little Samus series.” So the two of us put our heads together and came up with the perfect way of bringing Fem Shep to Life after Metroid and you know what I am rather glad of the result. A result you can see for yourself right here: Continue reading The Miketendo Strip: Issue #12: Life After Metroid Pt.3

Original Heroes & Spiritual Successors (Part Two): Punch-Out! & Metroid

Continuing on with our series of posts looking back at the original Nintendo Heroes and the Spiritual Successors that followed them. In Part One which you can read here, we looked at Arthur from Ghosts N Goblins & Mega Man from Mega Man. Today we will be looking at the Rocky Balboa of the Videogame world, Little Mac of Punch-Out! fame and Gamers favourite Intergalatic Bounty Hunter, Samus Aran from Metroid.

Little Mac- Punch-Out!

Little Mac had humble beginnings on the NES where he had to tustle with various heavyweights to be crowned champion. with Doc Louis at his side every step of the way. During the 80’s boxing was all the rage and inspired many films including the Rocky Series. Punch-Out was no different and went on to produce it’s own sequels. However, in this day and age, the focus has moved more onto Martial Arts and Little Mac’s last outing in Punch-Out! was on the Wii. Though Little Mac does have a cameo in Super Smash Bros For Wii U/3Ds It seems that he has hung his boxing gloves up and retired from traditional Boxing. However there is another contender willing to take off the kid gloves and slap in a mouth guard and that is Punch Club!

The first rule of Punch Club is to definitely talk about Punch Club. Even though it is not actually a fighting game but a fighting Tycoon Simulator, this game takes you behind the scenes and basically puts you in Doc Louis’ shoes as you train and manage the fighter’s lifestyle and choose their fighting style and technique, from Traditional Boxing to underground Grudge matches. The art style of this game is based on the SNES era and hosts many references to Pop Culture and cult favourites.

Samus Aran- Metroid

She’s Hot, she’s sexy, she can kick ass and blast aliens to smithereens, She’s Samus Aran and after 30 years in the field hunting aliens and exploring labyrinthine planets this blonde bombshell seems to have packed away her power suit for the foreseeable future. She has had a long career fighting against Alien Dragons, Space Pirates, Mother Brain, Metroids and even the Federation itself. She first wowed gamers when they all thought she was male until the end of the game, when she took of her helmet and showed her long golden locks. She has appeared in many games since her first outing in 1986 but like Little Mac, her last real game was on the Wii and has been stuck in cameo roles ever since, including Smash Bros. Though it is a shame we may never get to play as the illustrious bounty hunter again anytime soon, we can still make our way through labyrinthine worlds in Axiom Verge.

Axiom Verge put you in the shoes of Trace, a Scientist who after a dangerous experiment is transported to an alien world known as Sudra with amnesia and has to make sense of it all while trying to find a means to escape. With plenty of plot twists and bizarre constructs. Trace is forced to collect power ups that also mutate him as he works with the Rusalki to take on and defeat Athetos. Axiom Verge does well to carry the torch that was once carried by Metroid and pays homage to the same gameplay and graphic aesthetic from the SNES Era. Thomas Happ Games have done well to replicate Metroid and were even going to include a Power Suit costume for trace in respect for Metroid, until the Big N declined the notion.

That’s all for this post. As usual, thank you for taking the time to read this and if you have any thoughts or comments, please be sure to leave them in the comments section below. Next time we will be looking at Banjo Kazooie & F-Zero.

Until Next Time, Keep On Gaming!

The Miketendo Strip: Issue #4: 4 Life after Metroid Pt.1

Hello everyone, I’m avlongman9 and once again it is time for another of instalment of The Miketendo Strip and this time we pay Samus a little visit and see what she’s up to now that she doesn’t seem to be the heroine of her own games anymore and yes, there will be further continuations to this particular storyline: Continue reading The Miketendo Strip: Issue #4: 4 Life after Metroid Pt.1

Metroid: A Live Action Short Film By Ideas For Hollywood

Even though Nintendo never really did anything to commemorate the occasion, this year also marks the 30th Anniversary of Metroid which features the Intergalatic Bounty Hunter and gorgeous blonde Samus Aran. This Blonde bombshell is no bimbo and could turn anyone into a pile of ash with her mighty arm cannon. Samus Aran has travelled all over the universe fighting Space pirates and Alien Dragons and yet 30 years on, it seems she has retired and is reduced to only cameo roles in games such as Super Smash Bros and ahem, Metroid Prime: Federation Force. Having Fun With “Miimes” (Miis+Memes=Miimes)

Probably a fad that won’t last too long, they never do but I have found a new function within the mobile app Miitomo and that is as a Meme generator using Miifoto. In a nutshell, you can put your Mii and your friend’s Miis in various poses and outfits and then add some text to create your own Miifotos. I have taken it one step further and created “Miimes” that blend Miis with Memes to give the world a unique twist on humour and general silliness. Here are some of the Miimes I have created which puts the Mii version of Team Miketendo64 in the shoes of various Videogame charaters. From Super Mario to Samus, Link to Little Mac, which ones do you like and which ones do you think should probably go back to where they came from? Be sure to let us know in the comments below and without further more, let’s bring on the Miimes!

Metroid Miitomo: A New Kind of Crossover

Happy 30th Birthday Metroid!

Well Guys and Girls, our favourite intergalactic bounty hunter (No, not Boba fett) Samus Aran has been gracing our screens for 30 years today in the action adventure game Metroid. Co-developed between Nintendo’s Research & Development 1 division and Intelligent systems. Metroid was quite a solitary experience, spending hours upon hours in a series of labyrinths trying to hunt down the likes of Kraid, Ridley & Mother brain whilst taking out countless jellyfish-like beings known as Metroids. It was probably one of the most difficult games on the Nes at the time and though it’s fanbase is not as big as Super Mario or The Legend Of Zelda, they are pretty Die-hard. What Games Should Be Available At Launch For Nintendo NX?

We all know that this year Nintendo will eventually announce the Nintendo NX. When it will launch remains unknown, though there have been whispers that it may indeed be this year. I guess the important thing is not really when it launches but what games it will launch with. Nintendo have realized their mistake with the Wii U and the failures of not providing strong enough launch titles, but you have to give them their due. They have always tried to innovate and try new, different & exciting things and they probably thought that the console would do well without a Mario, Link, Samus or Kirby game to launch with but the plan backfired but at least they know for next time that what make Nintendo different from Playstation & XBox is that it HAS Mario, Link, Samus & Kirby. Nintendo’s highly regarded IP’s is what separates from the other consoles. If Nintendo want to avoid a similar fiasco at launch of the NX, they would be wise to have a strong set of Launch Titles to help Propel the NX of the ground and into orbit. Whilst on the subject, Youtuber & Zelda Theorist GameOver Jesse tells us what he thinks would be ideal Launch Titles for the NX, Including Super Mario Galaxy 3, Smash Bros, Pikmin 4 & More in his latest video. You can check it out in the video below.
