It is the year of the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda and there’s been a whole bunch of Zelda news revealed from today’s Nintendo Direct, so we’re just going to slap it all the important stuff into a singular article, so let’s get started!

First up amiibos. On the 2nd of December (same day for Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS releases,) we can get our hands on 4 very special “classic” amiibos! Among the line-up which celebrates 30 years of Zelda, is an 8-Bit Link amiibo, an amiibo of Adult Link playing the Ocarina of Time and two Wind Waker amiibo of Toon Link in his classic pose and Princess Zelda in her true form! Both Ocarina Link and 8-Bit Link amiibo can be brought separately but the Wind Waker related amiibo two can be brought as part of a special 2-Pack. Oh and just in case you need a reason to buy them other than adding them to your collection, how about the fact that the amiibos will have a special function in Breath of the Wild, but Reggie didn’t specify so for now it’s a mystery. Additionally, the Links and Zelda amiibo, act in the same way as the Smash Link & Zelda amiibo we have already.

Next up Reggie gave us confirmation that Dark Horse are in fact publishing 3 volumes of Zelda related works as part of the anniversary and that Arts & Artifacts really is just the first instalment. It features over 2000 images from The Legend of Zelda series and is available on amazon now for pre-order. Lastly the original version of Skyward Sword is releasing in the eShop for the Wii U today! But again, Reggie didn’t give us any additional details, such as giving us the answer to: “Will the game utilise the Wii U GamePad?”

  1. I have just gotten into the whole amiibo craze, so I have a long wish list of figurines I need to get (including that elusive Gamestop-exclusive Ness amiibo, of course). And now all of a sudden I have another three added to my list (I just don’t want the 8-bit Link).
