Hey all”! Welcome back to another M64 Latest, giving you a brief recap of news from the world of Nintendo as well as some personal insight into the happenings here at Miketendo64. The house of Mario has been busy today and has made a number of announcements including The Legend of Zelda Orchestra Concert, Wii U and 3DS Online Play closure dates, the Splatoon 3 Side Order DLC release date, and more spirits on the way for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Without further ado, lets dive right in!
Latest News: The Legend of Zelda Orchestra Concert, Splatoon Concert More Smash Spirits, Wii U & 3DS Online Play Closure, and Splatoon 3 Side Order DLC
The Legend of Zelda Orchestra Concert and Splatoon 3 Concert
To start off, Nintendo has announced that a pre-recording of The Legend of Zelda Orchestra Concert and Splatoon 3 Deep Cut Concert will be shared on their official YouTube Channels on February 9th, 2024 and February 10th respectively at 5:00 PT / 11:00 ET (13:00 GMT/14:00 CET). The concert was meant to be performed live at Nintendo Live Tokyo 2024 but the event was ultimately cancelled due to some very malicious individuals sending death threats to members of the organization team, as well as attendees and partaking competitors for the Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournaments that were meant to be held at the event.
With that sour note aside (this is some people can’t have nice things) at least we will all be able to enjoy the concerts themselves when they go live on Nintendo America’s official YouTube Channel. Be sure to subscribe to their channel and turn on notifications if you don’t want to miss it.
More Spirits Coming To Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Last year, we were treated to some delightful news that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was getting a new lease of life thanks to new Spirit events coming to the game starting January 2024. We have already had one wave of new Spirits featuring characters from Nintendo’s offerings in 2023 and 2024 with Rauru from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Oatchi from Pikmin 4, Noah and Mio from Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Deep Cut from Splatoon 3.
Starting on January 25th, 2024 (most likely January 26th for UK and Europe), and running for five days, Smash Bros. Ultimate players will be able to to take part in the Sentinels, Gods, and Baseball Spirit event which features characters like Zagreus from Hades, Power Pro-Kun, Aoi Hayakawa, & Mamoru Ikari from WBSC eBaseball Power Pros, and The 13 Sentinel Pilots from 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. During the event, players will also be able to earn more SP than usual.
Wii U and 3DS Online Play Closure.
It’s been a long time coming but looking back, it still doesn’t feel long enough. Alas, the online servers for Wii U and 3DS will be coming to a close on April 8th, 2024 at 4pm PDT /10pm EDT (April 9th at 12am GMT / 01am CET). This means Online play, internet rankings, data distribution and other functions will cease.
This information is stated on Nintendo America’s official support website. It also inludes a suggestion that should an event occur that would make it difficult to maintain, other online services for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software will also be brought to a close earlier than expected. What this means exactly is not specified, but seeing as online play, internet rankings and data distribution will be ending in April, what other online services will actually be left?
