As part of Nintendo’s 82nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, the Big N was met with plenty of worthwhile questions. With an English version of the full Q&A finally available, we get to hear everything Representative Director and President, Shuntaro Furukawa, had to say on all manner of subjects.
In this particular piece, Shuntaro Furukawa addresses Nintendo’s continued approach to their mobile applications:
Shuntaro Furukawa on Nintendo’s Continued Approach to Mobile Applications:
The specifications of a game are determined based on a comprehensive evaluation of various factors, so while I do not know if we can satisfy every request, your opinions are appreciated.
We are currently operating five applications: Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Dragalia Lost, and Mario Kart Tour. For our mobile business, our goal is to develop services that leverage the characteristics of the individual games so even people in regions where Nintendo Switch has not been widely adopted can experience Nintendo’s unique entertainment. In October 2021, Niantic released the mobile application Pikmin Bloom, which we developed with Niantic. Pikmin Bloom is a mobile application that makes it fun to get out of the house and walk around, and can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of age or gaming experience.
