Nintendo confirms the Mario and Zelda creator’s condition is stable after he missed the latest investor Q&A; return anticipated within days to a week.
Nintendo has confirmed that Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director and Fellow, was absent from the question-and-answer portion of the company’s latest financial results and corporate management policy briefing because of a sudden illness. The official Japanese Q&A summary document, published on November 6, 2026, states that his condition is currently stable and that he is expected to recover in a period ranging from a few days to about a week.
Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Pikmin, has continued to contribute in recent years even as he has stepped back from day-to-day development. He appeared in a pre-recorded Pikmin Day Direct on November 1 and is credited on the just-released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for original game design. He also recently missed an Order of Culture ceremony in Tokyo (announced last month as the first game developer to receive the honour). The briefing itself proceeded with President Shuntaro Furukawa and other executives answering investor questions.
No further medical details have been released. The straightforward note in the official document is the full extent of Nintendo’s public statement. Given Miyamoto’s long history of involvement in major projects and his recent public appearances, the update is primarily reassuring in tone. Fans and industry observers will be watching for any further word once the expected recovery window passes. In the meantime, the rest of the executive team continues to handle the regular financial and strategy communications.
