Nintendo Switch: Launch Date, Price & More!

The Nintendo Switch presentation is underway and here begins our first piece of coverage. Let’s talk the opening speech!

After an hour of music to get us in the mood and a 60 second countdown, the presentation was underway and President Tatsumi Kimishima took to the stage. So what did he have to say, well he started by telling us what we knew already, but everything we didn’t, such as:

  • The Nintendo Switch will launch globally the 3rd of March in the US, Japan, Hong Kong, most countries in Europe and Canada.

  • The price of the console is 29,980 Yen. $299.99US dollars, but European prices do vary so you are encouraged to talk to your local retailers.

  • Lastly, OBE1Plays was right. Online services are free at launch, but as of Fall 2017, players will need to start paying if they wish to use the online services that will enable you to invite friends to play with you via your smartphone.

  • More details on the online services are “coming soon.”

  • Region lock is now a thing of the past.

But Kimishima wasn’t the only one to offer information during the initial stages of the presentation so here’s what we also learned:

  • Battery life can range from 2 and a half hours to 6 depending on the game you’re playing

  • 8 Switches can be connected together for local multiplayer sessions.

  • Joy-cons feature independent motion control.

  • There is a Capture button.

  • There will be joy-con variations that will come in Neon red and blue. There is a strap that connects to the Joy-con and a strap to keep it to your wrist like a Wii remoted.

  • A Black strap will come with the Switch but additional ones are purchasable as an accessory. Battery life can range from 2.5 to 6 hours depending on the game.

  • The Joy-con equipped with a sensor that can judge distances and tell shapes apart, is a whole new way to play.

More information and coverage is on its way!
