In a move that was totally expected, Breath of the Wild won the Game Critics Award for being the “Best of Show” at E3 2016. We all saw the footage of the game and how it and Nintendo dominated the event this year, how could it not win?

Failing to snag Best of Show for themselves was Battlefield 1, Dishonored 2, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Sea of Thieves, and Titanfall 2. All of them good games in their own right, but not good enough to beat Breath of the Wild. Still that wasn’t the only award the next instalment for the Zelda series managed to grab, because Breath of the Wild also walked away with “Best Console Game” and “Best Action/Adventure Game.”

The success is well deserved and proof that although Nintendo were looking down and out, when they bounce back up, they can produce a game that sets the internet on fire and dominate one of the biggest gaming conventions of the year. The only question that remains is will Breath of the Wild knock Ocarina of Time of its top spot? Only time can answer that question, but does it really matter? Ocarina was the best of the 90’s whereas Breath, is the best of the now.
