Nothing “ODINary” about this one.

Just because WASD Live 2024 is now over and the doors are closed until the next event, the fun is far from over. With many games played and lots of developers and publishers to speak to, in today’s interview, we’re joined by Robert Feather, a Product Manager for Fireshine Games. With Odinfall in the works and confirmed for Steam, here is our complete WASD Live 2024 interview:

Robert Feather | Rising to the Occasion with Odinfall:

Miketendo64: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role with Fireshine Games?

Robert Feather: Hi! I’m Rob and I’m a Product Manager at Fireshine Games, working across several products including Odinfall.

Miketendo64: In what capacity are you involved with Odinfall?

Robert Feather: As the Product Manager for Odinfall, I’m involved in everything from marketing, promotions, influencer relations, Steam store presence and events, to name a few.

Miketendo64: What first attracted you to Odinfall?

Robert Feather: The game has always felt incredible to play, even from very early on. It’s just so smooth to run around, and the gunplay and gameplay loop is a lot of fun.

Miketendo64: Can you provide us with a brief overview of what Odinfall is about?

Robert Feather: Odinfall is a roguelite twin-stick shooter, set in a post-Ragnarok future Norse world. Over the course of the game, you’ll need to level up and improve your firepower to fight your way through a post-apocalyptic Viking future and take down Odin.

Miketendo64: Who are some of the characters that make up Odinfall’s playable roster?

Robert Feather: There are five unique and outlandish playable characters in Odinfall, including the part-cyborg, part-berserker Cyberserker, the dual-wielding gun-gnome Gunilla and – one of my favourites – a long sword-swinging Viking moose!

Miketendo64: If you had to compare Odinfall to another game, what would be its closest match in terms of gameplay or theme?

Robert Feather: Two of the biggest inspirations for the developer are Nuclear Throne & Enter the Gungeon. However, they were eager to put their own spin on the genre with some extra structure and progression, which led to the addition of an explorable home base with skill trees, unlocks, challenges and more. In this way, it is more similar in structure to a game like Hades.

The game also shares some other similarities with Hades in how it deals with ancient mythology, adding a fun twist to familiar mythological characters and pitting them as both friend and foe.

Miketendo64: With online co-op supported, are there any plans for a local co-op mode?

Robert Feather: Not currently. This was a design choice as the developers didn’t want to limit the player’s movement when playing, and two players sharing one screen made complete independent movement difficult.

Miketendo64: Which robotic AI God will players need to watch out for the most?

Robert Feather: As you can expect from the title of the game, Odin will be putting up a pretty tough fight. But there are other familiar names and faces along the way (that I won’t spoil now) who will also pose a serious challenge. Maybe even someone who you previously thought you could trust 😉

Miketendo64: What weapon is your most favourite to use when playing Odinfall?

Robert Feather: I have two! (You have to balance yourself with both melee and ranged!)

The first is the long sword: not only does it look good and can deflect enemy bullets, but if you upgrade it with a rapid-fire trigger (yes, you can do that on a sword in this game!) then you can become absolutely unstoppable!

Number two is the buzzsaw! Shooting spinning blades around the battlefield is one thing, but get a homing modification on that thing and you have yourself blades that seek and destroy wherever you go!

Miketendo64: Lastly, would you be so kind as to list all platforms Odinfall is coming to?

Robert Feather: Odinfall is coming soon to PC (Steam).
