Musou games at their finest.
As a game served up as a prequel of sorts, to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it should come as no surprise Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity went down a treat. Possessing plenty of charm and tributes to the Zelda series, Age of Calamity is a worthy continuation to the world and experienced in Breath of the Wild, whilst offering a musou experience like no other.
It is because of all of these things and more, such as the game being utterly magnificent in its own right and that’s without the need of purchasing the game’s expansion pass to experience additional stories and characters, it came as no surprise that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity swiftly became the best-selling musou game to date and now the game is celebrating another milestone.
Having previously passed 3.5 million copies sold worldwide and setting a new record, now it has been revealed the game has gone even further and sold a total of 4 million copies worldwide. Sure, these numbers pale in comparison when compared to Breath of the Wild’s combined Switch and Wii U sales of 25.74 million, but never before has a musou game ever hit sales figures like this before and it is certainly a milestone worth celebrating.
So much so, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity or “Apocalypse of Disaster” as it is known by in Japan, is currently seeing a discount for those in Japan, with the sale lasting until January 10, 2021. We don’t know when we might ever see another musou game that lives up to the likes of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, but we do know development is well underway with the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and provided nothing changes, the long awaited sequel is intended to release later this year.
