In what must be the biggest video game record in history, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold around 5 million digitally in its first month. The statement comes from Superdata Research who monitor digital sales of video games and mobile games. This is monumental for the game and the series as the like of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Pokémon Sword/Shield did that well in the first month on digital sales.

To be fair, the current global situation may have aided in digital sales as half the world is in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With retail stores currently closed and online retail the only means of obtaining video games physically, digital sales we no doubt see a substantial rise. It will be interesting to see how Animal Crossing: New Horizons has fared physically as well. We will have to wait on Nintendo themselves to share the details on that though.
