Coming all the way from Japan, the sales are in and the story of Super Mario Odyssey’s success is ever continuing!
As Japan nears a total of 3 million Nintendo Switch units sold (currently at 2,988,399,) it has been revealed that in physical copies alone, Super Mario Odyssey has sold more than 1 million copies. It doesn’t just end there though, as based on its sales in the last 8 weeks, when compared to other 3D Mario games for the same time period, Super Mario Odyssey has performed better then games such as 3D World, 3D Land and even both the Super Mario Galaxy games.
With 1,055,806 copies sold, the 3D Mario game that comes closest to Odyssey, is Super Mario 3D Land, which fetched 1,042,511, but then, none of this should come as a surprise, since Odyssey is being commonly cited as the greatest Mario game and even best game on Switch, on a daily basis. (Yes, it lost against The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the game of the year at The Game Awards 2017, but it is still beloved none the less.)
So way to go Mario, you’re number 1 in the charts and number 1 in our hearts. Woo hoo!
