Nintendo Announces November 1st as Pikmin Day With Brand New Pikmin Day Direct

Hey Pikmin fans! Get ready to celebrate a day dedicated to all things Pikmin, as Nintendo has announced November 1st (11.1) as Pikmin Day! Of course, Nintendo wouldn’t announce something like this without a Nintendo Direct, so they did, in an all-new Pikmin Day Direct. I will admit that this news caught me rather off guard. I wasn’t expecting the Big N to drop a Nintendo Direct of sorts on a Saturday of all days, but here we are. So, what exactly was in this Pikmin Day Direct? Well, let’s dive right in.

First things first. The Pikmin Day Direct was hosted by Shigeru Miyamoto himself. Nintendo’s resident goodfellow and father to all things Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, and Pikmin. He began by announcing that Nintendo will be celebrating November 1st as Pikmin Day, due to the first three Pikmin looking like the 111 when standing next to each other, bringing 11.1 to mind, hence November 1st. He then went on to showcase more of Pikmin 4: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, before revealing that a demo for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be available to download on November 2nd and will include a couple of levels of Dandori Academy.

The next announcement was that the mobile game Pikmin Bloom will be receiving a free update this Winter. The Secret Caves update looks to be a den raid mode where you can send your Pikmin to defeat raid bosses in order to collect treasures. If you are concerned about losing your favourite Pikmin in these Secret Caves, don’t be. Should any Pikmin sent on raids be defeated, they will need time to recover before they can be used again! Special maps will need to be collected before you can send Pikmin on these raids, and they can even be acquired by playing the Dandori Academy Mode in Pikmin 4: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy.

The last announcement from Miyamoto was to introduce the narrator of the Japanese Pikmin Day Direct, Fuka Koshiba. She will be narrating upcoming animated shorts titled Hello Pikmin! that have been created by the Nintendo Pictures Animation Studio. The Hello Pikmin! Shorts will be published periodically on the Nintendo Today app and Nintendo’s respective Social Media Channels. The first short premiered in the Direct, with a couple more to come in November and then once a month starting in December.
