2015 may not have been the year of Zelda U but it certainly was the year of Zelda when both of its 2015 titles walked away from the IGN Best of 2015 Awards with three wins between them.
Dominating the field with a double win was Tri Force Heroes, you know, the latest in a long line of Legend of Zelda games that was sprung on us, during E3 last year. The less action, more puzzle Zelda game that takes place in Hytopia and the Drablands, where Link, sporting any manner of costume he desires, can set off on adventures with fellow online players, or on his own with doppels. This was the Zelda game that left loyal fans divided and yet, despite that, it only went on to win Best Co-operative Multiplayer, beating Dying Light, the highly popular survival horror.
But Tri Force Heroes winning streak did not stop there because it also went on to win IGN’s 3DS Game of the Year, a very high honour, but deserved nonetheless but Majora’s Mask 3D didn’t walk out empty handed either. Given the same treatment as Ocarina of Time 3D, Majora’s Mask was brought back to life in February of last year and went on to be a real crowd favourite. So much so it walked away with the People’s Choice Award for Best 3DS Game of 2015.
But 2015 is over, it is now 2016, the anniversary of many franchises, and this year we will have both Twilight Princess HD and the long awaited Zelda U. When it comes to their turn next year, will they fair just as well or even better, only time can tell, but roll on March and let us return to the Realm of the Twili but back to Tri Force Heroes. If you have not yet picked up the game, it is actually worth the play and yes the story isn’t great, but it is a much better game than any of the CD-I Zelda games.
You can catch our review on Tri Force Heroes right here: Legend of the Totem Heroes / Tri Force Heroes – Review (3DS)
And our Majora’s Mask 3D review right here: Dawn of the Final Day – Majora’s Mask 3D
And with that, first I am off to try my hand at the Den of Trials again and then save Termina from a falling moon and a Skull Kid wearing a mask.
Till next time folks. Keep up the good fight and Keep on Gaming!
