Summer snoozing.
In a surprise announcement by The Pokémon Company, Pokémon Sleep’s continued development is changing dramatically. Having first released in July 2023 and developed by Select Button who also created the mobile game, Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, Pokémon Sleep’s continued support is now being tasked to another development team, which was only founded earlier this year.
Enter The Pokémon Works, a new studio that The Pokémon Company and ILCA founded. The very same ILCA who developed Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Pokémon Shining Pearl, and are involved with Pokémon HOME. The Pokémon Company has revealed The Pokémon Works is taking over the development of Pokémon Sleep from Select Button so now it is a case of wait-and-see as to how this development shift will impact Pokémon Sleep going forward.
However, it is worth mentioning that while The Pokémon Works is made up of ILCA staff, ILCA did, in fact, aid with the development of Pokémon Sleep in the first place, so at least some developers that were involved with Pokémon Sleep originally are still sticking around.
