After too many years in the making, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is finally out and we positively love it. Mike has already gone ahead and done us the honour of penning our spoiler free review for it, but I still feel the need to discuss many factors of this amazing creation. Unlike Mike, however, everything I will go on to say will not be spoiler free so please take this as your first and only warning.
With that unpleasantry out of the way, it’s time for our third topic, Toad.
Oh Captain, my Captain! (Toad):
With Michael-Keegan Keys on hand to voice Toad, we always knew Toad was going to be good, but we never thought he would be this good! With the likes of Mario and Luigi not getting the whole spotlight like they could have done, plenty of other characters managed to step into the limelight and stand out and Toad is one such character.
He’s the voice of reason and bravery, despite having a squeaky voice and adorable cuteness and as long as he is armed with his frying pan, he’s ready for anything. He only needs to know Mario for a few minutes and that’s enough for him to want to be best friends with Mario. He even has great chemistry with Princess Peach and does all that he can to help our heroes across their journey.
The only shame is, after all that he does to save the day and multiple worlds, we as viewers are not treated to a scene where he is granted the rank of Captain for if there was ever any Toad worth having that title, it’s this one.
Naturally, all views above are entirely my own and I would love to hear what you guys thought of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Thank you for reading.
