[Europe] Nintendo To Cease Nintendo Switch Production As Replaceable Batteries Come Into Effect 2027

Nintendo has officially announced on their website that they will gradually implement the incorporation of replaceable batteries in their products. This includes the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons, Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, the Nintendo 64 Wireless Controller, and the GameCube Wireless Controller. The changes will come into effect starting Summer 2026 as Nintendo rolls out new revisions gradually over the coming months to comply with European Battery regulations for mid-February 2027.

This is a double-edged sword because even though it is great news that Nintendo is implementing replaceable batteries into their products so they can be easily changed if they have a fault, the flip side is that some products will be ceasing production altogether. These products are the Nintendo Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite, the NES wireless controllers, and SNES wireless controllers. Going forward, the latter products will completely disappear from store fronts and will no longer be available to purchase.
