Product Reviewed: LED Mouse Adaptor Duo Pack
Manufacturer: iMP Gaming
Retail Price: £19.70 / €22.70
Hey All! Mike here with another cool product review for you. You may well be aware that the Nintendo Switch 2’s biggest gimmick is mouse controls. There are a number of games that support the feature, but let’s face it, holding the Joy-Con 2 in the Mouse Control position is not exactly the most comfortable or ergonomic, especially for extended gaming sessions.
Due to this, several third-party accessory manufacturers have noticed a gap in the market and have released their own Mouse Adaptors that you can slide the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con into, making it a lot easier to play some for your favourite games without the unnecessary hand cramps. For this review, we are taking a look at the LED Mouse Adaptor Duo Pack by iMP Gaming.
Appearances and Features:
The LED Mouse Adaptor Duo Pack, as the name suggests, comes with two mouse adaptors for both the left and right Joy-Con 2. They are designed to look as much like a typical modern computer mouse as possible. They have a large housing for you to comfortably rest your palm, and an opening to slide the Joy-Con 2 into, where it can sit snugly.
There is also a finger and thumb rest to help provide an adequate grip of the adaptor so it doesn’t slip when moving it around on a surface (or should you suffer from your perspiring hands). All of the Joy-Con buttons (with the exception of the SL and SR buttons) are easily accessible so you have free range of the controls at all times.
The actual surface of the Joy-Con 2 that would normally slide across the surface is raised slightly inside the LED Mouse Adaptor, so it is even less likely to scratch, but the internal camera can still read surfaces without issue. As for the LED in the name of the product, there is an LED strip on either side of the Mouse Adaptors with RGB lighting and an assortment of colours and lighting patterns to choose from. There are also indicator lights on the side of each Mouse Adaptor, which identify their player assignment (Player 1, Player 2, etc.).
As I mentioned before at the beginning of this review, mouse controls are not available for every game on Nintendo Switch 2. That said, there are a good number of games that do, in fact, use them. The folks over at iMP Gaming have made a point to list some of the games that make use of mouse controls on the product box. This is handy as there may be some games that you were unaware have them and may want to enhance your experience with them. Such games include the following:
- Civilization VII
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Deltarune
- Drag X Drive
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
- Mouse Work
- Super Mario Party Jamboree
Charging and Battery Time:
The LED Mouse Adaptor Duo Pack can be used with or without batteries, depending on personal choice. If you are not fussed about having RGB lighting, you can still use this product to move the Joy-Con 2 around and engage with its buttons. Batteries are only required if you wish to use the LED lighting around the accessory, to which you only need a single AA battery per Mouse Adaptor. In terms of battery length, it really does depend on the brand of battery you use and how long you have the lights on for/ what light setting you are using.
One thing I should point out is that the LED strip will change to a slow, glowing red light to indicate that battery power is running low. It will continue to glow red even if you press the change light button at the bottom of the Mouse Adaptor. It took me a few minutes to realise this when I saw it slowly glow red and wouldn’t change colour. Once I changed the battery, though, it was good to shine again.
Performance and Gameplay:
When it comes to performance, there isn’t really much I can elaborate on. The LED Mouse Adaptor for Nintendo Switch 2 performs as you imagine. It slides around on any surface just as the Joy-Con 2 do on their own. It does provide a much more natural grip and the added comfort of the palm rest to reduce cramping in your hands. The straps that come with the Mouse Adaptors provide a little extra security so that the accessory doesn’t fly out of your hand should you lose your grip. That said, in the unfortunate case that you do lose your grip of the Mouse Adaptor, the Joy-Con 2 will fall out instead, as there is nothing to secure it in place. This means that you will still need to exercise caution when playing games like Drag X Drive that mix mouse controls with motion controls.
CONCLUSION:
The LED Mouse Adaptor Duo Pack by iMP Gaming is an accessory that definitely does a lot of good, but the lack of a secure fitting for the Joy-Con 2 is a downside. For games like Nobunaga’s Ambition or Civilization VII, you will certainly get the most benefit as these games are primarily played with the mouse on a flat surface. Even the likes of Game Builder Garage will be much easier to play with this accessory. As for games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, you probably won’t play that much with mouse controls anyway so this isn’t going to be a massive game changer.
What it really boils down to is what exactly are you looking for when it comes to enhancing your gameplay? If you are looking to play more point & click games or those that predominantly use mouse controls, then the LED Mouse Adaptor Duo Pack is an ideal accessory to use in terms of comfort. It also looks too, even though it doesn’t have any flashy designs or patterns on it. The RGB lighting is more than enough to give it that little bit of flair as is the cool little iMP logo.
