Nintendo has teased what could be potentially a new IP on their respective social media and YouTube channels. The teaser is a 19-second video that shows a person in a long raincoat and a paper bag with a drawn on face over their head.
Very little else was shown with the exception of a mature rating, along with a viewer discretion advisory to warn anyone watching that there may be images they could find disturbing.
The description of the video only reads a single question, “Who is Emio?” We can only surmise that it is referring to the mysterious character in the teaser. In one instance of the video, a phrase in Japanese was shown that roughly reads as Emi otoko, according to the likes of Google Translate, and apparently means Smiling Man. This could very well refer to the character in the video who depicts a smiley face on their paper bag mask.

As there is nothing else we can draw from the teaser, we are just as stumped about such an ominous video from Nintendo. It is not clear whether this is a first-party title, and if that is the case, it is certainly interesting to see the House of Mario working on a game for a more mature audience. I must say that the design of the character actually reminds me of Mono from Little Nightmares II with his long coat and paper bag mask but it will be intriguing to see if their resemblance to one another is purely coincidental or perhaps not. Only time will tell. Either way, our interests are definitely piqued.
