Zelda fans were treated to a new video today showing gameplay for The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Gameplay demonstration was presented by Eiji Aonuma himself, and we got to look at some of the new mechanics that players will experience in the game as well as the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition.
There were four new mechanics (or abilities as they are known as in-game) that were shown in the video; Fuse, Ultrahand, Recall, and Ascend. The Fuse ability, as the name suggests, allows link to fuse two items together to create new one. Fusing a tree branch with a boulder for example, will create a stone hammer that can deal more damage to enemies and won’t break as quickly (that’s right, durability makes a return) You can also fuse items to arrows to give them extra effects. An Ice Chu Jelly will create Ice Arrows while a Keese Eye and an Arrow will create a homing arrow.
The Ultrahand ability takes things further with fusing as you can construct impromptu vehicles to move around on. You can meld several logs together and add some fans to create a raft. Put some wheels on the side of the logs and you will have a car. Turn the fans upwards and you will have an aircraft! As for the Ascend ability, you will be able to transcend through some ceilings to reach the surface above. This ability was shown off briefly in previous trailers for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but we got a better look at it this time around and how it works.
The other ability was Recall. This works like a reverse Stasis in that using this will return an object to its point of origin rather than allowing you to send it in any direction you like. The Recall ability will work well with trying to reach the Sky Islands that float above Hyrule as debris can fall from these islands and you can use Recall to send them back up (and use them like an elevator as they ascend).
If you would like to see the gameplay demonstration for yourself, you can watch it in the embedded video below. We also have a plethora of brand-new screenshots, courtesy of Nintendo PR that can be found in the Gallery after the video.
