Ever since its release in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has gone from strength to strength. It easily outsold its predecessor, the Wii U, within its first year and now it is currently the third best selling video game consoles of all time. The latest financial results from Nintendo has stated that the Nintendo Switch has sold 122.55 million hardware units worldwide and an incredible 994.30 million units of software.

These latest numbers puts the Switch behind the Nintendo DS (154.02 Million) and the PlayStation 2 (159 million) according to IGN, who has compiled the sales data for top 10 consoles as of February 2023 (this currently doesn’t include the Switch latest sales as they were only revealed earlier today).

As the Switch moves into its seventh year, it will be interesting to see if it will continue to sell as well as it has. While it is still very possible for the console to become the best-selling console, the software releases from Nintendo are starting to slow down a bit with fewer “system sellers” on the way in relation to previous years. We remain hopeful though, as the Switch has certainly been one of our most favourite consoles to date.
