Nintendo Europe and Nintendo UK have posted on twitter a tweet that officially introduces the new avatars for Nintendo Switch Sports. They are called Sportsmates and are the replacements to Miis that were present in previous instalments in the Sports series. Miis can still be used, however, only those that you have made up yourself on your own Switch can be used. This means that there will not be any default Mii avatars to choose from in the game.

As someone who has been using Miis since the Wii days, I’m happy that they can be used in Nintendo Switch Sports but with Nintendo’s decision to introduce a new kind of avatar, it seems that the Mii’s days are ultimately numbered as they are used less and less in Nintendo titles lately.
