Something that I get asked a lot is how do I maintain the momentum to keep Miketendo64 going? The simple answer is that I love video games and I love writing about video games. The long answer, however, is a bit more complex.
Running a video game website sounds great on paper. Free games to review, attending super cool press events and gaming events to play exclusive demos, and interviewing developers and other members of the gaming industry. That’s the dream, right? That should be enough?
Well, yes, it is but human emotions are a fickle thing. We always want more and more, and forget about what we have already been given. As many people who run their own video game website or even a YouTube channel may tell you, unless you are really successful and have hundreds of thousands, if not millions of views a week (or even a day), you will not get rich from it. However, we don’t do it for riches, but for the passion we have for video games.
Still, that said. It can bring you down sometimes when you aren’t getting enough views on content that you have created. I have had my fair share of moments but I have never complained about wishing we had more views or that what views we do have don’t matter. Of course, they matter. They matter to us. Not because it is another number to our tally but because someone, You, have taken the time out of your day to read out content and for that we are truly grateful for that.
It is people that help keep our momentum going. It is people who read our content every day or every week. It is people who we have met through video game communities and the gaming industry and have become lifelong friends with. It is people that are first and foremost the most important thing as to why we keep Miketendo64 going.
It is easy to lose sight of that sometimes. It is easy to forget what we have got and look at what we don’t have. To remind myself of why I created Miketendo64 and why I continue to make it grow, I have a Mood Board, or a collage if you will, with photos of some of the exceptional people that I have met. Now it may sound silly but the mood board actually does help me a lot.
Whenever I start to lose focus or motivation, I just look at the board and see all these people who have enlightened my life. I would never have met any of these people if not for our devoted and beloved followers and that is another reason why we are so grateful for their dedication.
Mood boards are useful for many other things as well. Developers sometimes use them for inspiration in developing their games and Artisans use them for the same reason when creating their own creations. It is definitely worth putting one together to help inspire you with your own projects or to help remind you why you are doing what you are doing in the first place. If you do decide to create your own, you can find a good selection of mood board templates online to get you started.
So, that’s the secret. That is how we keep Miketendo64 going and it is because of people. People we’ve met, people who read our content and watch our videos. It’s the people we engage with on social media. It’s the people who we have written and continue to write for us. It is people that keep us going and we forever grateful for their trust, their friendship and their faith in us. For that, we are eternally grateful.
Until Next Time, Keep On Gaming!
