As Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity can finally joyously celebrate the release of its Wave 1: Pulse of the Ancients DLC, we feel it is only natural to dive back into a game we love so much and experience the new character, content, and weapons, for ourselves. So, on that subject, the following is a guide on how to obtain Link’s brand new Flail type weapon:

How to Get Link’s Flail in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity:

First and foremost, as Link’s new weapon is only available as part of the game’s DLC, the same goes for Zelda’s Master Cycle weapon too (check out that guide here). It should go without saying that in order to even try unlocking it, players are expected to actually have either the Expansion Pass or have  the Pulse of the Ancients DLC separately. Additionally, with the DLC purchased and downloaded, players are also required to update their game to version 1.2.0.

With the game updated and DLC purchased, players will need to start up the game as they normally would, only now, as the map loads, so should some additional EX challenges. Only, ignore them for now and instead opt to make your way to the EX Royal Ancient Lab, which if you struggle to find it, can be found in Services, at the bottom of the list.

After a brief exchange between Robbie and Purah, new EX Research Quests can be seen, starting with Roll Out the Research. By meeting its requirements and completing any associated regular and EX challenge to earn the required materials, players will then want to complete the The Technology of Disassembly quest. Doing so will unlock the A Helping Claw quest, which upon completion, will reward players with the Guaridan Flail weapon.

A Helping Claw Research Quest Requirements:

Guardian Claw x1

Robbie’s Maintenance Oil x15

Report: Monster Ecology x1

Report: Battle Records x1

REWARD: Guardian Flail

NOTE: There is no limit on how many times players can hand in the required materials in exchange for more Guardian Flails.

*Once you complete the A Helping Claw quest, the Flail weapon for Link is now unlocked, congratulations.

Once the Guardian Flail has been obtained, new quests will appear on the overall Hyrule map and by meeting their requirements, players can unlock new combos for Link. They will also be able to play the EX Link: Flails challenge.

Furthermore, completing the A Helping Claw quest also opens the way to two other quests that reward new versions of the flail.

Ancient Bladed Flail

The Blazing-Blue Blades Research Quest Requirements:

  • Guardian Claw x1
  • Robbie’s Maintenance Oil x5
  • Robbie’s Machine Lubricant x10
  • Report: Relic Analysis x1
  • Report: Monster Ecology x1

REWARD: Ancient Blade Flail

NOTE: There is no limit on how many times players can hand in the required materials in exchange for more Ancient Blade Flails.

Fortified Flail

Magnificent Mass Research Quest Requirements:

  • Guardian Claw x1
  • Robbie’s Maintenance Oil x5
  • Robbie’s Curing Agent x10
  • Report: Relic Analysis x1
  • Report: Material Properties x1

REWARD: Fortified Flail

NOTE: There is no limit on how many times players can hand in the required materials in exchange for more Fortified Flails.

With the The Blazing-Blue Blades quest complete, players can then pursue the Applied Research: Clawsome Power quest to obtain an award that will boost the Flail’s attack power by +10.

Applied Research: Clawsome Power Research Quest Requirements:

  • Guardian Claw x1

REWARD: Flail Attack Power +10

By completing the Magnificent Massquest, however, players can then complete the Power Play: Magnetic Madness quest (use magnesis on 5 enemies), to earn the reward of magnesis damage increased. Completing this request then allows players to access to another useful Flail quest, Applied Research: Magnetic Inspiration.

Applied Research: Magnetic Inspiration Research Quest Requirements:

  • Guardian Claw x2
  • Robbie’s Maintenance Oil x10
  • Robbie’s Machine Lubricant x10
  • Robbie’s Curing Agent x10
  • Report: Relic Analysis x5

Completion Conditions: Use the Flail to copy 20 weapons.

REWARD: Flail Attack Power +10

Provided players have completed both the Magnificent Mass and Applied Research: Clawsome Power quests, they will then gain access to the Applied Research: Royal Gaurdians research quest.

Applied Research: Royal Guardians Research Quest Requirements:

  • Guardian Claw x2
  • Robbie’s Maintenance Oil x10
  • Robbie’s Machine Lubricant x10
