The reveal showed off a new game, which is not a sequel according to their FAQ page and takes Yooka & Laylee on a side scrolling adventure similar to past Donkey Kong Country games. The game, subtitled The Impossible Lair, features a 3D overworld map where secrets and puzzles abound. The titular heroes then enter into the 2D side-scrolling levels via books placed along the main path.
The levels themselves, showcased in the video below, are a 2D variety which include jets of water, swinging ropes, and combining the heroes individual moves to reach higher areas in the game. The feathered collectibles from the first game make their way into the new game as well and should offer gamers a reason to 100% all of the levels as you search high and low as you play each one.
The game is due out in 2019 and will see a Switch physical release via video game publisher Sold Out. No details on release date or price were in the reveal. Stay tuned to Miketendo64.com for more news and information as it becomes available.
