[Japan] Nintendo are Ending Wii U Chat, Nintendo TVii and Wii U & 3DS Miiverse Services on November 8th


We’ve already previously learned that Miiverse is on its way out, but not only do we have a date and a time the service ends, but we also now know of two other services meeting the same fate.

 

As well as Miiverse, Wii U Chat and Nintendo TVii will also be ending and all three will no longer be available as of Wednesday, the 8th of November, 2017 at 15:00 JST and Nintendo have provided the following information regarding the end of each service, only the original text is in Japanese, so below is my rough translation:

Notice of termination of “Miiverse” service

We are pleased to announce the launch of “Miiverse (Miverse)“, a service that connects customers all over the world through games, launched on Wii U on December 8, 2012 and on November 8, 2017 (Wednesday) I will end it.

 

“Miiverse” service end date and time November 8, Wednesday, 2017, 15:00 (Japan time)

 

I am sorry for the customer who used it regularly, thank you kindly acknowledge it.

About the state after “Miiverse” service:

  • Access to “Miiverse” from Wii U and Nintendo 3DS series and the Internet will be impossible, all services such as posting, viewing, messages with friends will be unavailable (error code “115-5004” in Wii U, Nintendo “015-5004” is displayed in 3DS).

 

  • In the software for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS series, if you support “Miiverse” independently in the game, that function or service will be unavailable.

 

Example: New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U) The following “Illustrations posted on the Miiverse community in the game” etc. will not be displayed.

 It will be an absolute shame to see Miiverse go as that would impact a lot of the community goings on and comments that were specifically placed on levels made for Super Mario Maker, in order to tell a story, but while it is a bit naïve of me to say this, but the good news to all this is, is that November 8th is only the revealed end date for Japan.

 

 While these services will also be ending in the West, there has been no confirmation that it will arrive on the very same day, so Wii U & 3DS owners who will be affected by all this, might just get lucky and have an extra day/week or two, or they might not as no one knows for certain until Nintendo of America, and Nintendo Europe weigh in and when they do, we’ll be sure to share the bad news that follows.
