Just like the developers “broke” the conventions when they made Breath of the Wild, Nintendo broke the conventions when by launching a new platform in March as opposed to the Holiday period and it’s paid off.

Coming straight from Nintendo of Europe, the Nintendo Switch has sold more units at launch than any of their previous consoles and handhelds and that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the biggest-selling Nintendo launch title. The official statement can be seen here:

“We can confirm that, across Europe, Nintendo Switch sold more in its launch weekend than any other Nintendo hardware in history. Launch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has not only been bestowed with some of the highest review scores in gaming history, it’s also the biggest-selling Nintendo launch title ever in Europe, even outselling Wii Sports in first weekend sales. And all this in March – traditionally a quiet time for the games industry.”

So hopefully now that they’ve got that out of their system that they’ll actually reveal some figures with us all real soon!
