Close to Pikmin.

Following yesterday’s Close to You trailer, which showcased an infant being left unattended momentarily by their mother, online speculation was rife. The biggest and most plausible theory was that the trailer was connected to the Pikmin IP, and that theory paid off. Nintendo has shared a new version of the trailer on the Nintendo Today! app, which reveals that the invisible characters in the trailer were, in fact, Red, Blue, and Yellow Pikmin.

There’s been no confirmation if this is a movie or a video game tease, or if Nintendo are just revisiting the Pikmin shorts they used to make, but for anyone who hasn’t seen the newest version of the trailer, it can only be seen in the app, as it has yet to be shared online officially. Some pirated versions of the new video do exist online, but since Nintendo uses Digital Rights Management (DRM) on the app to prevent the app’s content from being downloaded, screenshotted and screenrecorded, we will not be sharing said videos.

For anyone who has yet to check out the original version of the short film, which was created by Nintendo Pictures, you can see it for yourself here:

UPDATE (22/10/2025): Since the Close to You video was first released, the third version of the film, featuring the first and second versions together, is now available on YouTube, now titled “Pikmin Close to You,” and it can be seen here:
