“Link…open your eyes.”
After seeing so many fan-created LEGO Zelda sets over the years, with the first official The Legend of Zelda set now available, there was absolutely no way that I would be able to pass on it. So, when the postman knocked at my door on the Saturday just gone, my mind was made up. No matter what happened, I would assemble the entire build that weekend, which is precisely what I set out to do.
Faced with the choice between building the Great Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or the Great Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I went with the former. But it’s worth pointing out, if you’re on the fence and not sure what version you would rather build, should you rip open the box and want to jump right into things, regardless of what version of the tree you create, you can still build the Master Sword pedestal from Breath of the Wild and Link’s Treehouse from Ocarina of Time regardless, as neither piece borrows pieces from both Great Deku Tree builds.
Furthermore, should you choose to dive right into building the Great Deku Tree, you will be pleased to learn that by following the instructions, when building the base, which can be very fiddly and make you wish this had come packaged with a large baseplate, and then starting the base of the Great Deku Tree, you will reach a halfway point where you can then choose which version of the tree you wish to build. So if you change your mind when you start building, it’s okay as you’ll have plenty of time to rethink your decision in the first hour or two of the initial build.
But since my mind was already up, I naturally proceeded with the Great Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and having seen the finished product, I have no regrets. Will I be taking it apart to build the other set? Absolutely not, it was too time consuming to build the one that I did, but I wouldn’t rule out buying another of this set just so I could build the other version that way. Back to back Great Deku Trees? Why not. But that’s enough talk, you came for photos so here they are:
Will you be picking up this piece of perfection? Let us know!
