Capcom has recently announced that Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin has shipped over 1,5 million copies. The announcement can in the form of a tweet on Twitter and was accompanied with some commemorative artwork featuring Kyle and Tsukino.
With over 1,500,000 units shipped for #MHStories2, the bonds of friendship between Riders and Hunters have never been stronger!

While 1,5 million may seem small in comparison to Monster Hunter Rise’s 8+ million, this is still an incredible feat for the spin-off series that has players ride and fight alongside monsters to fight other monsters. If you look to the other side of the spectrum, MHS2 is a huge success compared to its prequel on the 3DS which only sold 309,465 units according to the Video Game Sales wiki.
