This year, much like the last has been severely void of video game conventions and events and for good reason. The worldwide pandemic has left a lot of things in the air and as we try to get a handle on it, it only goes and develops a new variant. However, with how things are at the moment and with more and more people being vaccinated every day, we can start looking forward to physical gaming events once again.

EGX 2021 is still going ahead and planning to be a physical event. The organizers have issued a new statement confirming the event is still going forward and that many health and safety measures are being put in place to drastically reduce any risk of contagion from COVID. One such measure is that all participants of the event must have proof of full vaccination or a negative PCR test within the last 48 hours. Masks are optional but recommended for the wellbeing and safety of the participants and exhibitors as well. As regards tickets, online ticket sales will commence beginning of September and those who attended the event in previous years can book pre-sale tickets mid-August.

If you would like to know more, you can find the full statement from the EGX team below.

To the EGX community —

There’s nothing our team looks forward to more than bringing all of you together to celebrate gaming, and so it is with great hope and excitement that we bring you an update on the return of EGX to London ExCel from October 7-10, 2021.

It’s exciting to think about welcoming you back. We’ve missed the energy of our show floor, the joy of getting hands-on with the latest games and all the special moments you create with your friends.

Obviously, the world has changed since the last EGX, so we’re sharing our plans today with this important assurance: our number one priority is the wellbeing and safety of everyone at our show. Right now, we see a path toward safe, amazing events that may look a bit different to what we’re used to, and that’s where we’re heading. However, our plans may need to change as we follow the latest government advice, exhibitor and fan feedback. To keep on top of the latest information right up to the show make sure to follow our channels: Twitter or Facebook or visit our website.

As things stand currently, here are some of the key safety measures we’ll be taking to keep you all safe. All these are obviously subject to change, and we will keep you posted of any changes via subsequent messages and the channels above.

1 – To ensure the safety of the event following pilot event results and latest government advice, everyone entering London ExCel will be required to provide one of the following:

  • Proof of full course of vaccination
  • Proof of negative COVID test within the last 48 hours (Lateral flow test is accepted)
  • Proof of natural immunity shown by a positive PCR test result for COVID-19, lasting for 180 days after the date of the positive test and following completion of the self-isolation period

For more information on national guidelines please visit the government website. For more information about the venue please visit their website

2 – We will be running our show with reduced capacity. Attendance and tickets will be limited so that we can ensure physical distancing, in line with our safety measures.

3 – We will be a mask friendly event. We strongly encourage attendees and visitors to continue wearing masks, especially when in enclosed or crowded spaces.

  • By checking everyone’s COVID status prior to entrance to the venue, the chance of someone with COVID entering the building and therefore the possibility of transmission is significantly reduced. The use of masks, despite strongly recommended, is down to your personal choice and what you feel comfortable with.
  • Please remember that if you travel to the venue using public transport you will be required to wear a face covering. We also reserve the right to require masks in certain areas of the show if needed. This will be announced closer to the event.

4 – We will have enhanced cleaning throughout the show and plenty of hand sanitising stations available.

We’re sure you will have more questions, and we’ll answer them as soon as we’re able. We’ll be sharing more information in the months leading up to our show, and we are committed to being as transparent as possible.

Our goal remains the same: bring together our community to celebrate gaming.

We also wanted to let you know that tickets will be live from September 1 and ticket prices will be unchanged from 2019. These will be available through our brand new website, which we’re currently building so that we can keep you up to date with the latest information right up to the show.

Since there’ll be a limited number of tickets available, we will also hold a pre-sale for previous ticket holders (2018/19), starting Monday August 16. Keep an eye on your inbox for a link!

There’s a lot in the works at ReedPop and we’ll have many more announcements for you soon with games, panels, and so much more. We promise it will be worth the wait.

Finally, thank you for your continued support in what has been a difficult time for our entire community. Thank you for your patience with us at every turn, and for your understanding, as we continue to navigate the future of EGX and Rezzed events together.
