Hey all! If you have been following us for a while, you may have noticed that we have shifted from the way we normally do reviews to an all-new format that we call EXPlay. It is an abbreviation of “Explain & Play” and combines a written explanation along with recorded gameplay footage without commentary. There are no scores or heavy critiques. We simply tell you what the game is about and how it plays while presenting you with gameplay footage of the game. We then leave it to the reader to decide whether they will like the game or not.
After all, games are meant to be played, and while a lengthy review may tell you the ins and out of a game, they will still ultimately be of the opinion of the reviewer. You know what kind of games you like and what games you don’t. That’s why we have decided to change our approach to a more refined format. With our EXPlays, we can give readers insight into a game like what its features are, what game modes they have, how it looks and plays, as well as specifics like release date, price, developer, genre, etc.

The way that the internet is constantly changing and adapting, we all have to adapt along with it. The likes of aggregator sites like Metacritic were a generally great way to evaluate if a game is good or not. Now, however, it is all too easy for users to review bomb a game if they think it deserves a much better score than what critics gave it or even trash a game completely because it was obviously too hyped up.
This is one of the reasons why we wanted to change how we approached and wrote game reviews. If someone liked what we wrote about a game, they might buy the game but won’t always leave a comment, so you never know if you helped encourage someone to buy the game or not. However, if someone doesn’t agree with how you feel about a game, they will most certainly come down on you like a tonne of bricks and bring a whole world of hurt with them.
Another reason for the change is because we value our reader’s time. All of our lives are extremely busy and there is always so much going on, not everyone has the time to sit down and read an online article for 20 minutes when that time could just as easily be used to watch a video on YouTube or check our social network. We know that all too many websites are going for clickbait and/or super lengthy articles to rack up their views and try and keep people reading to improve their SEO. We just want to provide great, genuine content that readers will appreciate and will return to read more of our content when it is convenient for them.
