A new Champion appears!
In the 3 years and 8 months the Nintendo Switch has been available on the market, Nintendo has seen all manner of success stories.
Ports of Wii U games has been better received, multiple new releases have gone on to be the most popular game in their series, but Nintendo’s greatest success story, after Animal Crossing: New Horizons which has managed to sell 26.04 million copies this year alone, is the endless popularity of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
As one of the earliest Wii U ports for the Nintendo Switch with added content, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a major success on Switch and has continually been pulling in impressive sales figures, but now it’s success has brought a change to Mario Kart history.
For a long time, the top selling Mario Kart game has been Mario Kart Wii for the Nintendo Wii. It boasts an impressive 37.38 million sales and at long last, it might have just meet it’s match!
While Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on its own currently sits at 28.99 million sales, when you add in the sales for Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, (8.45 million), you get a combined total of 37.44 million.
Thus, on a combined note, we do have a new Champion when it comes to the series’ best selling title. Only time will tell if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can go the distance and claim the title for itself officially without any assistance with it’s Wii U counterpart.
