The Nintendo Switch has a great selection of fantastic indie games, with unique gameplay mechanics and visuals. This December, Nintendo treated us to the “Indie World Showcase”, showcasing sixteen brand new games. From dating sim meets dungeon crawler to birds riding skateboards, the batch of new games shown look like a lot of fun and we can’t wait for them to release.
In case you missed the presentation or you just want a recap on the exciting new titles that were shown, you’ve come to the right place.
The presentation started off strong with the reveal to the sequel of Golf Story, titled Sports Story, developed by Sidebar Games. This new adventure is much grander, tackling on not only Golf, but other sports like Tennis, Fishing, Basketball, alongside a few others. Not only that, but this new entry will also feature dungeons, espionage and mini-games. Sports Story is set to release Mid 2020.

Next up on the showcase is Streets of Rage 4 from Dotemu, Guard Crush Games and Lizardcube. The fourth entry in the Streets of Rage franchise takes all the best qualities of the first three beat-’em-up titles to create a brand new game with new gameplay mechanics, a brand new story and new stages to fight on. You’ll be able to beat up bad guys in flashy new ways once Streets of Rage 4 arrives on Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2020.

From the developers of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night comes Gleamlight, D3PUBLISHER’s newest game. In Gleamlight, players get to play as a sword. You’ll learn about a sad, terrifying and warm story, showcased in a stained-glass artstyle. Gleamlight releases early 2020.
Developed by Streamline Media Group, Bake N’ Switch is a multiplayer party brawler that involves a lot of baking dough, a lot of food and a whole lot of punching. The presentation also shows off Alexander Fernandez, CEO of Streamline Media Group, enjoying the food his team baked for him. Bake N’ Switch arrives Summer 2020.

SuperMash is a game that lets you make games, and it’s all thanks to the guys over at Digital Continue. Players can mash together different video game genres to create unique and different experiences every time. What if you wanted to mash “Platformer” with the “Stealth” genre, or “Shoot-’Em-Up” with “JRPG” genre? All of these combinations and more will be available May 2020.

The Talos Principle Deluxe Edtition by Croteam pits you against over 120 complex levels, challenging players to divert drones, manipulate laser beams and replicate time itself. Excited to play this game but can’t wait for it to release? Well don’t worry, because The Talos Principle is available later today!

Developed by David Evans, Sail Forth is a high-seas adventure with exploration from a procedurally generated map, as well as some good ol’ naval action, quests to accept, sailors to rescue and pirates to explore. Sail Forth arrives in 2020.

Developed by Oddworld Inhabitants, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD is the definitive version to this classic action-adventure game. Players get to wield Stranger’s unusual crossbow that shoots live ammo, that’s right, live ammo. From bugs to rodents, this bad boy will fire rounds of whatever ammo it can get its hands on. This updated version includes improved controls and gyroscopic aiming, and will be available January 2020.
SkateBIRD, You control a bird riding a skateboard. Do you really need to know more to convince you on purchasing this game? Developed by Glass Bottom Games, releasing late 2020.

Liberated by Atomic Wolf blends the artstyle of cyberpunk and a hand-drawn graphic novel to create an interactive action title with seamless transitions. Players get to flip the literal pages of the novel to play the action platforming, side-scrolling stealth gunplay. Liberated releases as a timed exclusive in 2020.
So… dating simulator meets dungeon crawler. I must give my thanks to Kitfox Games for giving me something I didn’t know I needed until now. Dreamscaper by Afterburner Studios is a top-down shooter, brawler and dungeon crawler with a emotionally challenging story of a nightmarish depression living in the mind of a young woman’s subconscious. Dreamscaper releases as a timed exclusive early 2020.
Set in the universe of the Escapists, The Survivalists by Team 17 combines crafting, base-building and survival to create a new multiplayer adventure that can be played in both local wireless or online. Also, MONKEYS! Lots and lots of monkeys where prominently shown in The Survivalists’ first trailer. Releasing 2020.
