When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate drops this December, not every character will be available from the get-go, as players will actually need to meet certain requirements to unlock them.

However, judging recent Best Buy Canada listings, it seems amiibo can be used as well, as far as Ridley, Inkling Girl and Wolf are concerned. The exact wording for each character can be seen here:

Ridley:

Inkling Girl:

Access a whole new level of fun and smash the competition with this Super Smash Bros amiibo. Made to make a mess wherever she goes, the Inkling Girl is a perfect addition to lineup. Simply tap the amiibo accessory to the NFC touchpoint on your game system to unlock this trouble-making resident of the city of Inkopolis.

Wolf:

Access a whole new level of fun and smash the competition with this Super Smash Bros amiibo. A former fighter in Andross’ army, the Wolf now leads his own mercenary team, and he’s not one you want to cross. Simply tap the amiibo accessory to the NFC touchpoint on your game system to unlock this Space Pirate.

There are no details if it will be the same for King. K Rool, Dark Samus, Chrom, Simon Belmont and Richter Belmont, but then there aren’t any listings for those amiibo at this time. Still, this wouldn’t be the first time amiibo could be used for optionally unlocking characters as such a thing was highly utilised in Super Mario Maker. Should more news come in concerning this matter, we’ll be sure to provide an update.
