Turns out this is becoming a regular thing, so it’s time to reorganize this a little, we can’t just throw random news snippets at you without some sort of order, so from now on, you can expect to see “Big Game News” nearer to the end of the piece, game updates and maintenance just before that and regular reveals and announcements right from the get go. As always, news round-up consists mostly of the news we, the Miketendo64 team feel is worth repeating!

Hyrule Warriors Legends (NEW COSTUMES):

Plenty of new costumes are coming to both Wii U and 3DS versions, costumes that draw inspiration from both Wind Waker and Majora’s Mask and just from the first glance, Phantom Ganon is hands down the best one, with Outset Island Link not too far behind him. Be sure to check out our buddies over at Hyrule Herald to see plenty of photos of the other new costumes!

Pokémon GO (GYMS & BADGES):

Elsewhere in the world, it was announced this week that the augmented reality free to play, mobile game Pokémon GO, will feature Gyms, which can only mean one thing, BADGES! But should this not be the case, I guess those of us in Europe will just have to settle for Pokemon Badges from the Nintendo Badge Arcade as the likes of Mewtwo, Charmelon and Pikachu have taken up residence inside the machine and the Nintendo Bunny can’t wait to battle us and reward 2 free plays.

The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (HERO POINTS):

Turns out, Super Mario Maker wasn’t the only Nintendo game to receive an update as the latest Zelda instalment got one too. Version 2.1.0 introduced the use of Hero points, a new feature that doubles as both an incentive to play more online co-op, where should you find yourself a level you didn’t vote for, you can earn points, which will unlock special powers for the Bear Minimum digs and more.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS (SMASH BALLOT):

Last week it was the Final Smash Direct and the result of the Smash Ballot, and this week there’s still more talk on the Ballot, which received 1.8 Million, an impressive sounding fact in its own right but not so much when over 11.4 million copies of the game have been sold, which means that less than 15% of Smash Fans actually voted in the Fighter Ballot. So all of those who didn’t vote, have no real right to complain about who won the Ballot, even if it was the Illustrious Bayonetta.

Other Smash news this week consisted of another performance update for Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS to further balance some of the fighters. Link & Ganondorf, both from The Legend of Zelda series were a couple of those who were affected.

VIRTUAL CONSOLE (A WHOLE LOT OF MARIO):

Europe is in for a double dose of Mario as Super Mario 64 DS & Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars as both released on the 24th of December. But the Mario fun does not end there as Super Mario Galaxy is also out on Virtual Console.

Super Mario Maker (UPDATES & NEW COSTUMES):

This week’s Big game news is of course Super Mario Maker, not only is this the week where update 1.30 came out, bringing us the Fire Koopa Clown Car, P-Warp doors, bumpers and the course web portal, known as “Bookmark,” but it is also the week where Amazon named Super Mario Maker its game of the year, three new costumes were announced for the game, with Captain Toad arriving this Christmas morning and the other two to come on New Year’s eve. It was also the week where at the very start of it, came the discovery of Mario Costume #112, when not only was a Data miner able to make the discovery of Super Mario Land’s Sky Pop plane, but also uploaded it as part of a level so the likes of the masses could see it and try out the costume in action. We were one of the first to break the story on this and like GameXplain, uploaded a video of the Sky Pop costume on Youtube, which did get a number of views, before it was blocked by Nintendo. (We’re sorry Nintendo, we know you wanted to keep it under wraps, but we wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we didn’t).

With another week over, it’s time to turn our attention to the news and wonders the next one will bring and who knows, we might just do a complete round-up of 2015.

Till next time folks. Keep up the good fight and Keep on Gaming!
