Looking to charge your Nintendo Switch Joy-Con in style? Well, you might be interested in this new accessory by iMP Gaming. We are back with another product review, this time for the Rocket Dock LED Charger for Nintendo Switch 2. There are already some affordable options available, but none are quite as awesome-looking as this one. Most are quite sleek or robust, but they are rather sparse in the design department. The Rocket Dock LED Charger, on the other hand, goes all out in design by looking like a rocket ship, whilst still being fully functional to charge up to four Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers at the same time.

Appearances and Features:

Rocket in name, Rocket in design. The Rocket Dock LED Charger has a rather conical shape with a black body, four white wings and a white tip. The white sections of the dock possesses little motifs etched into them to give it more detail. The wings of the dock are where you can attach your Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con to. They can attach magnetically and be removed easily without force. Thanks to the versatility of the Joy-Con, you can connect them to the dock in all sorts of ways: right way up, backwards, upside down. All four wings can take both a Left or a Right Joy-Con. As long as the charging strip of the Rocket Dock is inserted inside the Joy-Con, the Joy-Con will charge.

The Rocket Dock LED Charger comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable that you can use to connect the dock to the Nintendo Switch 2, or to a USB AC adapter. The cable itself is about 80cm long, which is a reasonable length, but you can use longer or shorter cables with the dock as long as it has the appropriate connectors. As to what end is needed to connect the cable to the Rocket Dock, it is the USB-C end that connects to the port in the back of the dock.

On top of each wing, there is an LED indicator light that will glow red when the connected Joy-Con is charging and will turn blue if it is fully charged. At the very bottom of the dock, there is another LED Light that illuminates in an assortment of colours. A small button can be found at the base of the dock, and when simply pressed, it will change the colour of the LED. A Long press on the button can turn the light on or off.

Charging and Battery Time:

The Rocket Dock LED Charger boasts a fast charge of 2.5 hours to charge any connected Joy-Con fully. It has both Over Current Protection and Over Voltage Protection so that your Joy-Con don’t suffer from power surges, and Current Limiting and Voltage Limiting to keep the charge constant and stable. It is comforting to know that iMP Gaming takes these kinds of protections seriously and that my Joy-Con are not at risk of being exposed to excessive amp intake or voltage. The Rocket Dock will also indicate when it goes into protection mode from under or over-voltage.

When all four indicator lights flash red rapidly, charging will automatically be halted in all four ports. Charging will then resume only if the power supply to the dock has returned to the normal limits.  When it comes to over-current protection, it will usually be to a specific port on the dock that a Joy-Con is connected to and not all four at once. The indicator light will flash rapidly in red, and the highlighted port will stop charging until the Joy-Con is removed.

CONCLUSION:

The Rocket Dock LED Charger by iMP Gaming is not something that I necessarily needed as I only have one pair of Joy-Con for the Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Nintendo Switch Joy-Con are not compatible with it. That said, I really do like the design of the charger and am actually very grateful to have it. Not only does it look pretty cool, but the practicality of it is a big bonus. It also doubles as a cool accessory to display Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con on, and with Nintendo recently revealling a new colour set of Joy-Con releasing in February, I now have a great charging dock to keep them charged and a means to display them when I am not using them.

Cool, practical and very stylish, the Rocket Dock LED Charger, is definitely my go-to for keeping my Joy-Con charged and stored when not connected to my Switch 2.
