Hellish inspirations…

With NIS America once again hosting a fabulous preview event in the heart of London, and an invitation in my inbox, I recently got the opportunity to go hands-on with five amazing upcoming games. One of the games that took us most by surprise, however, was Etrange Overlord. Developed by SuperNiche and created by Sōhei Niikawa, the creator of the Disgaea series, Etrange Overlord is another hellish adventure that feels right at home on consoles and feels like a true Sōhei Niikawa title.

But, during the NIS America 2025 Showcase in London, I didn’t just get to play the latest creation from Sōhei Niikawa, but I got to meet the legendary creator himself and interview him. Without further delay, the following video is the entire conversation that took place between Sōhei Niikawa, Shawn Cox, Senior Coordinator of NIS America’s Localization Department and I:

[Interview] Sōhei Niikawa is Back! | From Disgaea to SuperNiche & Etrange Overlord

End of Interview

A huge thank you goes out to Sōhei Niikawa, NIS America, and Reef Entertainment for making this interview happen. It was our absolute pleasure, and if you would love to know even more about Etrange Overlord, why not check out our preview?

About Etrange Overlord:

Étrange von Rosenburg is falsely accused of assassinating the king and is executed. Waking up in hell, she decides she’ll just have to take the whole place over! Experience this frenetic action RPG from Sohei Niikawa, creator of Disgaea and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure!

Take advantage of the unique revolving lane mechanic that sends items, buffs, and even characters circling around the map. Then challenge this action-packed gameplay with your friends in the 2-4 player high-octane multiplayer mode!

Indulge Étrange in her insatiable need for sweets in order to reap rewards of character improvements and bonuses. The gorgeous character designs brought to life by legendary illustrator Shinichiro Otsuka are sure to delight as Étrange and her many, many allies ride, fight, and even sing their way across hell. This is one musical odyssey you won’t want to miss!
