Graham E. Hancock: (Editor & Author)

Name/Known Alias: My name is Graham E. Hancock, and the E’s important because it separates me from the other Graham Hancock.

Occupation: I’m the editor of Blocks Magazine, a monthly magazine for LEGO fans and an author.

Best Known for/Notable Works: Best known for Blocks Magazine, my notable work is my new, big beast of a book, LEGO Star Wars: The Force of Creativity.

Fun Fact: A fun fact about me is that when I am looking for where I’m going to live, I have to take account of where I am going to put my LEGO collection. Other people are measuring up the curtains, I’m measuring up the space for LEGO.

How did you make your break into the industry: I was doing a job that I didn’t particularly enjoy, as it wasn’t really very fulfilling for me and then Blocks Magazine came along. As a magazine for adult LEGO fans, it was just such a breath of fresh air to see something. I could sort of tell what the magazine was trying to do, so I got in touch with the guys there and one thing led to another and now I’m the editor of the magazine somehow.

Favourite Projects to have Worked on: I think some of the most special projects would be working on Blocks Magazine was when we did special issues for the different LEGO movies that came out. I love what I do, I love writing about LEGO sets, I love talking to people who design LEGO sets or create with them in different ways, but getting to do a bit of film journalism through the guise of LEGO was really different and something I really enjoyed doing.

Hardest Projects to have Worked on: Hardest projects to have worked on? The toughest project was LEGO Star Wars: The Force of Creativity, just the size of the book, the time frame that we were working on, the number of interviews that we did, and the amount of research involved, it was one of those where we had to be very well organised and work in a very fast way.

Currently Working on: I’m currently working on a redesign of Blocks Magazine, so we’ve got a whole fresh new look, it’s cool, it looks nice, and hopefully the new design reflects the kind of content that we do and it delivers it in the best way possible. It allows us to cram more stuff into the magazine as well, which is always good.

Currently Playing: The Sims 4. While I have known about its expansion pack “Journey to Batuu,” I hadn’t had the chance to play it previously. But, because I was hoping to get to Galaxy’s Edge this year, which doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, I’ve been playing the Sims’ Star Wars expansion to give me my fix until I can get back to Disneyland or Disney World.

Currently Watching: I’m waiting for The Acolyte.

Defining Career Moment: I suppose again I’m going to have to go back to the answer of LEGO Star Wars: The Force of Creativity, because it’s something that I didn’t know I was going to end up writing. When I first saw the LEGO Star Wars range in Toys R Us in 1999 as a child, I never dreamt I’d end up writing a book about it, so without a doubt, it’s got to be that.

Throughout your career, of the many things you have since learned, is there anything you wish you knew at the beginning: I wish I’d learned that people who write books, people who edit magazines, it’s not this mysterious other that very highfalutin people can do and it’s not something that I wasn’t capable of doing.

It’s one of those things that I would have felt a little bit intimidated by when I first started my career, so the thing that I would say to other people is to really believe in your talents and have faith in them, because yeah, you can do cool things.

If you had the opportunity to work with any IP, what would it be: Well the problem is I’ve worked with my two favourite things, so it’s really hard to think of something else at this point, but I suppose it would be cool to do something with DC or Marvel, to do something comic book related, that would be a lot of fun.

Is there anyone you haven’t worked with yet, but would like to: I suppose the interview that I’ve still not done that I’d really like to do is Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the writers and directors of the LEGO Movies. I’ve had the chance to meet them but not to interview them, so that’s still on the list.

For fans of your work, who’d like to get in touch and stay up to date with all the latest news, what are the best places for them to reach you on: If you have a look on Facebook, Instagram, X, search for my name, and if you see a picture of someone sitting in a big pile of LEGO bricks then you’ve found me.
