Rudolf Kremers: (Game Developer & Author)

Name/Known Alias: Rudolf Kremers.

Occupation: Game Developer & Author.

Best Known for/Notable Works: Game – Eufloria / Writing – “Level Design – Concept, Theory & Practice”

Fun Fact: I was the first kid to make a video game in my high school, back in the 80s (Yes, I am THAT old).

How did you make your break into the industry: I built up a portfolio of decent Quake levels, which were pretty popular in the late 90s. This allowed me to interview for level design jobs, and somehow I landed one at Douglas Adams’ company The Digital Village in London, working on the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy game. I couldn’t believe it! A dream come true, and my life hasn’t been the same since.

Favourite Projects to have Worked on: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Eufloria, Receiver 2, Dauntless Fear Simulator, Bioframe Outpost.

Hardest Projects to have Worked on: Hahahaha. no way!

Currently Working on: Bioframe Outpost (final polish!) and Eufloria RPG. Also a hobby project with a young programmer called “Become 10” and an unnamed puzzle game that will be amaaaazing.

Currently Playing: Super Liminal, Shadow Run Returns.

Currently Watching: 3 Body Problem, Ripley, all kinds of crazy international genre stuff. Classic Hong Kong flicks, Polish art house, Italian Gialli, westerns, gothic horror….

Defining Career Moment: IGF Grand prize and Bafta nominations for Eufloria.

Throughout your career, of the many things you have since learned, is there anything you wish you knew at the beginning: Always double your time estimates.

Also, your debug info often hides really useful game features. If it is useful to you in debug, it may well be really nice for players to see it too (in a player friendly form).

If you had the opportunity to work with any IP, what would it be: Silent Hill probably, or Quake. But only if given a free hand, hahaha. (It will never happen.)

Is there anyone you haven’t worked with yet, but would like to: Koji Morimoto.

For fans of your work, who’d like to get in touch and stay up to date with all the latest news, what are the best places for them to reach you on: Our Discord! It’s friendly, we are there every day and love talking to people https://discord.gg/2qWgFVn7Zb.
