It has been a while since our last M64 Latest update but only because we were waiting on rounding up news that we feel was substantial enough to actually talk about. We know how busy life can get and we hate to waste anyone’s time with short clickbaity articles so lets dive straight into our weekly roundup of news.

Latest News: Splatoon 3: Side Order DLC Gets Overview Trailer, New Princess Peach Showtime Trailer Shows Off Even More Transformations, And Cavern Of Dreams Is Coming To Switch

Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass – Side Order DLC Overview Trailer

First up on today’s agenda is the Side Order DLC for the Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass. Nintendo recently released a 4:50 minute long overview trailer showing off some of the gameplay and revealing more details about the next wave of DLC for the game.

It seems that the basic premise of the Side Order DLC is to serve as a roguelike dungeon crawler that you can play over and over again. You play as an Octoling who goes by the codename Agent 8 and you are aided by a Drone that is supposedly piloted by Pearl from Off the Hook. Players must fight through hordes of enemies by splatting them with weapons and they can collect colour chips in order to upgrade their gear that will last for the duration of the run. If you fail, you will lose all your colour chips but you will gain a currency called Prlz that you can use to purchase permanent upgrades.

Without spoiling anything more about what was covered in the overview trailer, you can check out the full video below.

Princess Peach Showtime: More Transformations Revealed!

While we still have to wait until next month before we can get our hands on Princess Peach Showtime, Nintendo has published a new trailer on their respective YouTube channels that show off even more of Princess Peach’s transformations.

In the video (which you can find below) Princess Peach will show off her figure skating skills, become a singing mermaid, an enigmatic thief, and unleash her super alter ego Mighty Peach with four more additional transformations. Just like the previously revealed Ninja, Cowgirl, Patissiere, Swordfighter, Kung Fu, and Detective Peach, each transformation comes with its own themed stage or rather, each stage in the game has a unique transformation for Princess Peach.

Whether these transformations are the last ones to be announced or not remains to be seen. A number of news outlets are reporting these as the last transformations are the last but Nintendo themselves have expressed that these are more of Peach’s transformations. The Title of the video even states Act II and seeing that the game is set around a theatre and a stage play, it is possible we could have an Act III with more transformations yet to be revealed.

Cavern of Dreams Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

Cavern of Dreams is a 90’s inspired 3D Platformer that takes heavy influence from the likes of Spyro the Dragon and Banjo Kazooie. Developed by Bynine Studios and published by Super Rare Games, Cavern of Dreams will be releasing on Nintendo Switch on February 29th following its successful launch on PC.

The game follows a young dragon called Flyn who embarks on a quest to rescue his unhatched siblings by collecting their eggs that have been snatched by a terrible and mysterious villain. It is a charming collectathon that focuses solely on platforming and exploration and is devoid of combat, making it an accessible title for younger players whilst still being entertaining for older, more experienced players as well.

After watching the trailer, we are seriously hyped for this game and can’t wait for its release on Switch. As big fans of games like Banjo-Kazooie, Super Mario 64, New Super Lucky’s Tale, and Yooka-Laylee, we look forward to seeing what this game brings to the table. A lot of outlets have spoken quite highly about it during its PC release so we look forward to sharing our thoughts on Cavern of Dreams too.

M64 Latest: Happy Valentines Day Lara Croft!!

I don’t actually have too much to share from our side of the fence. Our EXPlay review for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is live and just in time for the game’s release today on February 14th, AKA Valentines Day. There has been quite some discourse on this game now that it is available to the world. Most of it has been quite positive. Even I had plenty of nice things to say about it but unfortunately, a lot of the discourse has been centered around Crytal Dynamic’s EULA agreement at the beginning of the game and that their are instances in the game that can be considered offensive and racial.

Our Explain & Play review focuses purely on the gameplay and the visuals of the game and taking into account that the original Tomb Raider games are a product of their time, much like anything that was released prior to the late 90’s / early 2000’s. That’s not to justify that it was right to display and trivialize certain things, but back then, people had a much different perspective than they do now. Still, if you would like to take the chance and read our coverage, you can find it below.
