The cat is well and truly out of the bag this time. As many had suspected from previous trailers for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomit has been confirmed that famed voice actor, Matthew Mercer, will in fact be voicing Ganondorf in the upcoming sequel.

Having begun his career almost 20 twenty years ago (2004), Mercer has lent his voice to many forms of media, such as videogames, anime and films and he is no stranger to working with Nintendo. His most recent credits with the Big N includes Chrom in Fire Emblem Engage and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but now he gets to add Ganondorf on that list, which, coincidentally, is a role he has once played before, in a web series of his own creation, called “There Will be Brawl,” which was first released in 2009.

Mercer actually played a live-action version of Ganondorf and having previously been admired for his performance of it, it just makes it all the more poetic that he gets to voice the big bad in official capacity in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Having been the one to announce this news in the first place, here’s what Matthew Mercer had to say:

I just got the go-ahead from Nintendo, so I can FINALLY announce my absolute pleasure to be voicing Ganondorf in The Legend of #Zelda : #TearsoftheKingdom. An immense honor that I have thrown myself into doing justice.

I have been an immense Legend of Zelda fan since I was a child, and Ganondorf has been one of my favorite antagonists… to the point where I portrayed this green-skinned menace for my webseries over a decade ago!

Many of you know the weight of expectation on my shoulders for this, and I hope to do you proud. A huge thank you to @NintendoAmerica, @Nintendo nand the entire Tears of the Kingdom team for entrusting me with such a badass.

Ganondorf TLOZ Tears Of The Kingdom
