Gamer Den

A Cave, Sanctuary, Inner Sanctum. These are just some of the names we like to call our gamer den, be it your bedroom, the garage, or a separate room in the house. Though a lot of us have a restrictive area and resources to work with, we all find ways to carve a niche for ourselves where we can get our gaming on. Regardless of the size of your room or the video game collection, we are going to share some tips on how you can make the most out of your space and turn it into a respectable gamer den.

Displaying Your Game Collection

Whether you have a small or a large collection of games, you can increase the size of how it looks by the way you display it. Ten or twelve games doesn’t look like much when displayed on their own with the spine facing outwards. However, if you rotate them and have the front of the cases looking outward, all of a sudden, your collection has “grown”.

If you have a rather large collection of games, you may have to opt for the “spine facing out” display if you are restricted to space on your shelf or bookcase. Although, you could go for combination of the two display methods with your favorite collection of games displayed facing outwards and the rest of your games displayed side on.

Displaying Your Game Consoles

If you have a number of gaming consoles, you will most certainly want to display as many of them as you can. This is understandable but can at times be a little unsightly or cluttered. To reduce the look of all your consoles stacked on top of each other, maybe invest in a TV cabinet that has dedicated areas where you can display your consoles neatly.

Another good tip is that if you wish to display all of your consoles but only play with a select few, consider not having the other consoles connected up. This will reduce the amount of cables that could be visible and keep things looking neat and tidy. You could also use zip ties to keep your cables neatly together as well.

Free standing or Free Hanging TV?

Whether to have a TV standing freely on top of a unit or hanging from a wall is a question that crosses many of our minds. The answer is really a matter of space and personal preference. If you already have a unit or cabinet for your TV to stand on then you may as well have it free standing.

On the other note, if you are looking for a more streamlined look and don’t wish to have deep furniture restricting your living space, shallow shelving and a wall hung TV may be a better option for you. If this is a better option for you but don’t trust hanging a TV to a wall yourself, you may ought to look into get a professional to install your TV for you. They can do the heavy lifting and find a suitable area to securely hang your TV. While they are at it, they could probably handle TV aerial installation so you can watch regional TV on your down time when you are not gaming.

Displaying Merchandise & Collectibles

Another thing that we like to have on display in our gamer dens are collectibles and merchandise that we have acquired over the years. I have quite a collection myself ranging from books, magazines, guides, amiibo figures, gaming lights, and even Plushes. It is not always easy to display everything, especially if you are restricted with display space.

I find that Plushes or cuddly toys work well when you display them together. Perhaps along a shelf, at the end of a bed, or even on a chair. With the likes of figures and amiibo, I like to combine them where I can. If they are figures based on characters of the same video game series, I usually pair them up together, and sometimes along with the games of that series as well.

Creating Ambience With Lighting

Something that has become quite popular over the last few years is using lighting to create ambience. This can be by using lamps featuring the form of your favourite characters or objects from your favourite game. Other people also like to use remote-controlled lighting strips that you can simply plug into a USB outlet and control with a remote or via an app for your smartphone.

Although I haven’t dabbled in the lighting strips myself, I do have a number of video game orientated lamps from Paladone that I have purchased over the years, The designs of their lamps have become more elaborate over the years and make great feature pieces that look great and illuminate your gamer den in style.
