For fans of Transformers video games on home consoles, after 5 long years Transformers will make its long-awaited return in the form of TRANSFORMERS: BATTLEGROUNDS and while you have to wait a few more days before I can give my full thoughts, I am allowed to treat you guys with a preview and that is precisely what I am going to do:

“Autobots, Assemble!”

Solid Jack

First and foremost, TRANSFORMERS: BATTLEGROUNDS is a strategic action game where players engage in turn-based battles between the Autobots and the Decepticons, only, unlike other previous Transformers games for home consoles, this is the first one to revolve around the Cyberverse franchise first established in 2018 and had a cartoon series that ran for three seasons, covering the adventures of Bumblebee.

TRANSFORMERS: BATTLEGROUNDS relies on the franchise heavily and makes use of its character designs, but for the game environments, they are a little lacking in comparison and if I was to give you a quick comparison as to what other strategic shooters this game feels like, I’d be more inclined to say Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. rather than Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

As far as gameplay is concerned, however, while it’s too soon to give one’s full thoughts, it’s decent. TRANSFORMERS: BATTLEGROUNDS might not be developer Coatsink’s next Shu, but there is plenty of time on the clock for it to prove itself a winner, we’ve just got to see how the rest of the story plays out and if the story mode doesn’t take your fancy, it’s Acrade Mode might just be the game’s saving grace, especially with modes like Capture the Flag and more
