In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can transfer and use designs created in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Animal Crossing: New Leaf on Nintendo 3DS. By using the Nook Link feature in the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app for smartphone devices, players can scan QR codes and then download them in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The best part is, even if you don’t have Happy Home Designer or New Leaf, you can find tonnes of images that have been shared online when using a search engine like google. These designs can be used for designing your furniture or clothing but you can only scan and download one design at a time so be sure to download them onto your Nintendo Switch before moving onto the next image you would like to scan.

We have provided a breakdown of what you need and what to do to set up Nook Link on your Smart Device and transfer designs into Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

What you need:

A smartphone
Nintendo Switch Online app
Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite
A copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Step 1:

Download the Nintendo Switch Online app onto your Smartphone. From there, you will need to synchronize the Nook Link (Animal Crossing app) with your Nintendo Account.

Step 2:

Boot up your Nintendo Switch and turn on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. On the main menu, press the – button to access the settings. You will then need to connect Nook Link to the internet.

*With that done, you can then proceed to transfer designs into the game.

Step 3:

Search for any design with a QR code via a search engine on a separate device (Laptop, Tablet or another smartphone device). With your Smartphone that has the Nintendo Switch Online App, go to the Nook Link app and then select Designs.

Step 4:

Press the “Scan a QR code” button to be taken to a screen that can then be used to scan the code. Some designs have four QR codes. All four must be scanned in order for them to be processed. You can then save the design on your smartphone.

Step 5:

Boot up Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite and start the game. Press ZL to access your Nook Phone and then select the Custom Designs Tab.

Step 6:

From the Custom Designs tab, press the + button to download your saved design into your game. Choose an empty design space where you would like to download your saved design.

*Saved designs that were not designed by you can not be edited or altered. Should you need free space for another downloaded design, you will have to delete a design first.
