Let’s hear it for 2019!
Time for a bit of serious news folks, thanks to an amendment to the existing “Unfair Competition Prevention Law” in Japan, the act of modifying your video game save data, now comes with the risk of you serving up to 5 years in prison.
Furthermore, this punishment is not just limited to save data modifying for games like Splatoon 2 on the Nintendo Switch, but even just using tools and programs that allow you to mod save data, can end up with you being sent down.
Just in case that’s not bad enough, those who modify, will also run the risk of having to pay damages to the parties/companies behind the developed software that you’ve modified and it’s no small amount. From the information given, the fine could be anything up to ¥5,000,000 yen ($45,727 US dollars.)
While some might argue its extreme, others will deem it justified, but what do you make of all this? Let us know!
