In just 4/5 very short days from now (depending where and when in the world you read this,) we will no longer have to speculate on what Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch will be. E3 isn’t just coming, it’s literally right on top of us, almost as if we are all the toilet seat and there’s a guy who has just dropped their trousers and ready for the off.

Disgusting analogy I know, but that’s how close we are and it’s a lot than the alternative analogy I could have used regarding cloth and touching. But, as we wait for the E3 goodness to drop (especially the Super Smash Bros. stuff,) Hollywood Reporter recently had the chance to catch up with Nintendo’s Bill Trinen and although he was coy on whether or not it is a new Smash, he did have a few things to say. The first is with regards to showcasing the game via a tournament at E3 and the other concerns the kind of content that will be shown. Characters, modes and items will be shown, but Nintendo won’t be revealing everything straight away. Both his statements regarding these things can be seen below:

“It’s an exciting way to showcase the new game with some of the best players in the world playing it. Typically players from the different games don’t play against each other, but we wanted to showcase the game before launch and wanted to represent both sides of what is a very strong Smash Bros. community.”

“The tournament is going to be designed to show quite a bit of the game in terms of modes, characters and items, but obviously we won’t show everything and we’re keeping a few surprises for later in the year.”

As fun as it would be to speculate that we could get a Smash Direct later on in the year, closer to the game’s launch, as well as character trailers randomly dropped, for now, let’s remain truthful to what we do know. Smash is coming to Switch this year, Sakurai will be involved and at E3 and everything will kick off on June 12 at 09:00 PT.  But, that’s not all we have to bring up, as in the Hollywood Reporter article, Trinen also says the Splatoon 2 World Championship (which takes place on June 11 and June 12,) will feature a look at a new stage and “some additional content that’s coming from a DLC perspective.” (Possible the Octo Expansion, but that’s just a guess on our part.)

While this does conclude the Trinen news, as E3 has yet to get underway, do expect extensive coverage relating to anything and everything Nintendo E3 related, over the coming week, starting from now!
