Get a mouthful of this one!
A new MAXIMUS CUP has been announced for Tetris 99, and like what we saw with the 47th MAXIMUS CUP, the 49th MAXIMUS CUP is giving players a second chance to obtain three Kirby themes that were previously released. Of the three returning themes, we have:
- Round 1: Kirby and the Forgotten LandÂ
- Round 2: Kirby’s Dream Buffet
- Round 3: Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe
Players need only to earn 20 points during each round to unlock its associated theme, but there is a catch. The four-day event is being broken up into two one-day rounds and one two-day rounds. In other words, players have a limited amount of time to earn the necessary points to unlock their corresponding theme, hence why 20 points are required, not the usual 100. For the timings of the event, we have them here:

About Tetris 99:
99 players. One winner! – Battle your way to the top in Tetris® 99, a competitive online* version of the iconic game. With a Nintendo Switch Online membership, you’ll be able to put your speed and skills to the test—and try to knock out opponents. Reach the very pinnacle of Tetris achievement by becoming the last player standing!  Tetris 99 basics: Ready for a challenge?
- In Tetris 99, your goal is to rotate and move falling blocks called Tetriminos to complete horizontal lines. Completed lines disappear, clearing space for more Tetriminos, which fall faster and faster.
- Attack other players by sending Garbage Blocks their way! These Garbage Blocks will fill up their screens, making it harder to clear lines.
- As you knock out your opponents, you’ll earn K.O. Badges. The more badges you have, the higher your attack power.
- Put your speed and strategy to the test and see if you have what it takes to be number 1!
How to battle – You can manually select who to attack or choose from four different ways to target automatically, so you can mix things up during your game.
- TETRIS®  99 INVICTUS – Take on the best of the best. This is an online battle mode for players who have achieved at least one TETRIS® MAXIMUS victory.
- More Player Icons – Showcase your accomplishments with new icons and clear daily missions for tickets to get new themes.
- Team Battle – Up to four teams can fight for the top spot, and the team with the last player standing wins. XP points are awarded to present players once teams are ranked, so stick around to collect your earnings.
Big Block DLC – Get additional modes for the Tetris® 99 digital version as with the one-time purchase of this DLC. Download the Tetris 99 game on Nintendo eShop for free to play. Game modes included are:
- Knock Out targeting – This will target players who are already close to being defeated. Ouch! It’s a great way to earn K.O. Badges, though.
- K.O. Badge targeting – Attack players with the most K.O. Badges. Knock out the player, and you’ll get their K.O. Badges for yourself! Just watch out for those counter attacks.
- Counter attack – Go after players who are attacking you. If multiple players are aiming your way, it’ll counter attack them all at once.
- Random – Randomly choose opponents to attack. This could make you less likely to be targeted for counter attacks.
- Marathon – Challenge yourself in this offline mode to clear the most lines and score big.
- Local Arena – Get up to eight friends together for a local battle!**
- 2P Share Battle – Share Joy-Con™ controllers for a two-player game against each other and the CP
