The Beginning of the end.
With Nintendo still set to announce the Nintendo Switch successor sometime before the end of the current fiscal yet, the Big N has revealed plans to end eShop services in China. Instead of removing all services on one set date, Nintendo will be terminating services across two dates.
On March 31, 2026 it will no longer be possible for consumers to purchase games and other listed software.
On May 15, 2026 consumers will no longer be able to redeem digital codes, download games or acquire DLC for supported titles. It is said, “other network services will be ending” on this same date.
In the meantime, a new promotion has been announced since the Nintendo Switch is handled a lot differently over in China with fewer games released and users being able to tie their game to a WeChat account. As long as consumers have a linked WeChat account, from November 27, 2024 to March 31, 2026, they are eligible to receive up to four digital games for free. As for what games they can choose from, we have the list here:

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Mario Tennis Aces
- New Pokémon Snap
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!
- Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!
- Kirby Star Allies
- Super Mario Party
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Yoshi’s Crafted World
Currently, this type of announcement is limited only to China but as long as the rumours are true and the Switch successor is backwards compatible, services for the Nintendo Switch in other territories should carry on, business as normal.
